"Limbaugh Smear Letter" tops $2M @ eBay

10 or so hours to go and the "letter" is over $2M.

Potential bidders must be pre-qualified, but I don't know how that works.

All proceeds to "Marine Corps -- Law Enforcement Foundation"

Auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/Original-Harry-Reid-Rush-Limbaugh-Smear-Letter_W0QQitemZ260170172469QQ

Who's bidding, are the bidders really qualified and will the winner pay?

FWIW.

Best,

Kurt

This has got to be hype, no one in their right mind would spend that money. Then again no one in their right mind would care.

I guess one would get publicity . . . and it appears the money goes to a good cause.

That's my best guess.

Best,

Kurt

2 (3?) presidential contenders ... along with the other Senators ...and a story that the buyer gets to be part of.

What's so special about the letter? I've looked at it and I'm still not getting why this is significant. . .

The bid is real and Limbaugh is going to match the donation.

In dollars or in "equivalent value" of painkillers and prescription drugs?

Because Limbaugh did not call soldiers who disagree with the war "phony soldiers". It was a liberal smear site that twisted his words and they bought it. They bought it to the point that they admonished a private citizen as official business of the Senate based on lies which they had plenty of time to vet and did not..

It was an attempt to retaliate for the MoveOn.com ad and it backfired.

Ahh, okay. So 41 U.S. senators actually wasted their valuable time on this nonsense?

Wow.

Pretty much and Limbaugh is taking the opportunity to combine shaming/mocking them with raising money for a fallen soldiers charity that he has already given million too and is on the board of.

He's a real monster

He's a blowhard, but I've never thought of him as a monster. More like just a self-aggrandizing buffoon.

It's nice to know that even self-aggrandizing buffoons can do some good in the world occasionally though.

This is what I don't get (and up front I want to say that I am not trying to insult ANYONE by this, only throwing it out for further debate. politely)...

Yes, Rush does tend to think highly of himself, or at least act that way as part of his show and celebrity.. certainly not the first or the last, and certainly not the worst. But does this make him a buffoon? I argue that this opinion is short sighted on your part. Again, hoping to make this only an opposing viewpoint without getting into name-calling or pissed off feelings afterwards...

Rush, IMHO, is actually quite brilliant. I certainly do not agree with everything he says, and would venture to guess that he and I have some difference in personal values, but that does not make him a buffoon. Even if you are completely against everything he stands for, you would still have to surmise that he is pretty freaking intelligent and saavy to have buiilt the mulitmillion dollar empire he has without a college education, or even a product to sell. He really does not even offer much of a service for his income, other than offering commentary on political and current events. I have a hard time seeing how anyone can consider this accomplishment "buffoonery".

Just my humble 2 cents worth...

No, he's a buffoon for such idiocy as supporting the Newt Gingrich "Contract with America", BlowJobGate, and for getting busted for OxyContin, among other things.

Buffoon? YOU should be so intelligent! (You aren't!)

Air America has ...how many listeners? (LOL) Oh, didn't they go bankrupt once before more money was pumped in to prop them up?

He is the voice of Conservative America. There is no equal.

Deal with it.

Again, your choice in words is probably what I disagree with. Just because a person differs with you on an opinion does not make that person an idiot or buffoon. When we get to the point in life we are unwilling to listen intelligently to differing opinions, objectively, then quite often it is we who become the buffoons. Don't ask me how I know this please...:

The Rush ego thing is a gag of his, it's to tweak those that hate him...it works.

I would seriously like to listen to him with a lefty some day and get their real time reactions. It would be educational.

I've heard smart things come out of his mouth and I've also heard incredibly stupid things come out of his mouth. I'm not really convinced either way. He's like Coulter - he's got a "schtick" and ultimately just exists to sell advertising. Fine, whatever. To be honest, he kind of bores me - as do most of the political "shock jock" types. I've tuned in a few times but only when there was nothing good on. Same with Air America or any of the other politically-oriented commentary-type programs. They're all the same - just blathering on about the stupidity of the other side and creating heat, not light.

If that's your thing, fine. Not mine. I'll probably end up listening to his show again, but I won't go out of my way to.
