How about make cd's that millions of kids are willing to plop down $12 for, maybe $75-$150 to see live and $24-$40 on merchandising? Multiply that a few times, throw in royalties, appearances, Pepsi commercials and I'd say she's earned it all. Plenty of folks have made more money doing less.

in that line of thought, you could say that nobody should earn millions
because in that sense, why would the life long hard work of a CEO
be worth more then any other straight up, honest man who worked all his life?

Britney Spears did work hard for most of her youth, she didn't have a normal childhood, then popped one good single, and got rich in the blink of an eye...
as far as i know, she was in the same batch with Timberlake and Aguilera, who were working on their career back when they were still kids...

just like Michael Jackson was working hard early on in his childhood

if you think about it, that's probably part of the reason why they then go mental when they do found success and wealth... they never had time to grow up like most others do... double edged sword...

Speaking of that, Brit also employs a ton of talented folks. They don't make music or dance with her that I'd pay a nickel for. But some of those guys are monster musicians on their own. Check out Greg Howe, one of the best guitar players ever. He makes his money playing with the likes of Michael Jackson, Britney, Enrique Iglesias, etc. on tour and then in the off season does super jazz projects in his home studio and smaller gigs for serious music fans. I think there's even a photo floating around here of Eddie Van Halen taking his boy to a Britney concert about 8 yrs. ago.

I have a fair number of diabetics who are walking around on TWO feet, because of my efforts that would give me a big sack of cash if they had it.

One guy that springs to mind had more than one guy tell him he needed his leg off, I took off part of his foot(trans meta-tarsal amp), about two inches this side of where your toes attach to your foot) lenghtened his achilles tendon(which is CRUCIAL for the success of this type of amp) I believe medicaid (state administered, federally funded indigent medical program)paid me $200 for the amp, said the achilles lenghtening was not necessary and paid nothing for that, even after several appeals. Included in his care was all follow up, for a week in the hospital and several months after in the office. 90 minutes of surgery, plus total of perhaps 5 or 6 hours in hospital and office(plus travel time to hospital), plus dressing materials as it all fell in the 90 day global period.

If you asked Johnny about it, he would value my efforts at much greater than $200. If he had Britney or Oprah money, I would be rollin' a Carrera GT painted a retina damaging color of yellow. Oprah has some jacked up feet, I have seen pics, if only she would turn up at the ER with a rotten couple of toes...

Ah now HERE is an interesting line of conversation! You make a good point, however I would say that a life's work isn't valued in money so the comparison doesn't quite work.

I have thought about this off an on for years, understand I believe in capitalism and allowing the free market to set prices, however sometimes that free market just doesn't make sense to me. In the same way that housing prices in California don't make sense to me, I can't fathom how Britney makes that kind of scratch.

What does it say about our society's values when we pay teachers next to nothing, ministers next to nothing (unless they are televangelists...which are more performers than anything), social workers, counselors, farmers, etc...all get minimal wage. Yet Britney or Fiddy (or however the hell you say his name) or Paris get millions. Obviously if money is the measure of the value placed on a service by society, then society values Paris' sex tapes a whole lot more than the pastor at the corner church. We find out that A-Rod wants over $300 million to sign a contract...for hitting a baseball.

Sometimes it just doesn't make sense, you know?

That's an odd statement.

If she didn't earn the money, where did it come from?

I guess if a rich relative gave it to her, or she found it in a bag laying on the ground, or she printed it on her computer, she arguably didn't "earn" it.

But I'd imagine her money comes in the form of large checks from very large, very savvy corporations, who are not in the charity business. I'm not sure how you would get those checks from those corporations without earning them.

We don't. Teachers get paid quite a bit when it is looked at as a per hour rate.
My pastor makes a very comfortable living, probably gets as much as I do but I'm sure he donates a great deal more than i do. BTW, my church just bought another house for our next pastor, our senior pastor is close to retirement. We are planning to give our senior pastor the house he currently lives in free of charge when he retires which is worth about $650,000.

Donald Trumps personal expenses were once over 340 MILLION dollars (or was it 34 million) PER MONTH! Hard to top, but possible. Thats how a billionaire can go bankrupt. Shoot I have spent over 100K per month, so its clearly possible. Come to think about it my kids have friends that have monthly budgets almost that big. (100K). Its true that thats a lot of money, but it isn't a WHOLE lot compared to some people. Spending several million bucks a year to live is very very easy. Shoot Kerry spends that much on haircuts. Kerry is one of them there POOR democrat working types. Our Saudi Friends carry that much money in petty cash. I have heard from reliable pilot friends that they need a fork lift to put the petty cash aboard their aircraft. These people spend several BILLON dollars per year, thats several 1000 million dollars per year. How much per month is that?

In any case, this is AMERICA, its her money, to spend as she chooses. It ain't the commie states of Norway or whatever. However she spends it, she supports more poor people than any Norwegian state ever could for the same outlay.

She'd earned the money under any of those definitions. The large companies that write checks to her wouldn't write them otherwise.
