For the life of me, I can't keep up with these generation labels. Can someone break it down for me?.
I'm a baby boomer (1954) and all of us were born from 1946 to ...I think....1962 or 1963... or something. If one label was good enough for people spread out over 16 or 17 years, why do we need generational labels for every 5 year increment these days? Just asking........

I'm supposedly Gen X (after baby boomers) roughly 1964-1979. Gen Y is 1980+.

Communicate thirteen times a week? We haven't heard from our kid that many times since he left in mid August.
He's only 2 1/2hrs away, has been home a couple of times, plus we've been to two of his swim meets. His grades are good, he's adapted well, we're enjoying the empty nest. Jim

The ones that are hovering/helicopter parents don't have a little voice in their head/common sense. The term "common sense" always strikes me as such an oxymoron, or everyone would have more of it.

There is no such thing as common sense.

I think we've talked to our son on the phone maybe 5 or 6 times since he left mid August. He will text anytime but will not answer his phone. He came home a couple of weeks ago because I had a free flight for him. I do miss him because I was a major fan of his various bands over the years. His drummer is moving down to Austin at semester to go to a technical music school so they'll be rejuvenating some form of their old band. He seems to be adjusting well except for the fact that he is trying to hang on to an old gf here. He actually has a career planned out unlike I did so that is good.

I think there is. In fact I think most people know full well they should or shouldn't do various things, i.e. drink and drive, or shouldn't spend this or that, etc....but they are so immature or arrogant or both they don't think "the rules" apply to them. "Nothing'll happen" and they just pass things off....and the problem is a LOT OF THE TIME they get away with it. But not always.
Anyway, I am probably guilty of being too cautious. Life has to be lived and I sometimes am too concerned about future regrets and don't just go for it. As I've grown older I have started
