A friend back in college acquired a full grown male cat that hadn't been fixed. Nice, affectionate cat - but it kept spraying the guy's apartment so he had it neutered.
After that the cat became very withdrawn and unaffectionate - when he was home the cat would jump up on the fireplace mantle and just lay there staring down at him.

I have 2 bulldogs. Love them dearly.
But dogs are dogs are dogs are dogs. They stay outside. I even change pants, clothes, sweaters, etc. when I walk them. Dog smell is something I think could be nasty. I admire people who let their dogs stay inside; as long as I do not smell them. I hate people who let their dogs stay inside, as soon as I smell the dog. |

My wife’s dog sleeps in our bed. But then again, he’s a six pound Yorkie. And he can only get on the bed if someone puts him there. If he's not sleeping next to my wife, it's because my daughter has absconded with the pooch.

I like dogs. I like beds. I don't like dogs in bed.
I'm a big dog fan. We have one now, but have had 2 for the last 15 years or so. I don't like them in bed. Had Labs exclusively. They have their own bed. I stay out of theirs. They would deposit to much filth. I have suspicions that the kids let the dog in bed with them. Yuck!

Not only "No!", but He11 no!"
Four dogs, one would like to be a 'bed dog' but there's no effing way. The cats will sleep on the bed during the day, but at bedtime, I announce, "Critter pitch!" and any dogs on the floor or cats on the bed get out and the door is closed. Actually, my wife tells me that when she was little, she shared a bed with her sister and their dog. She says she can't recall which one was worse for 'hogging' space on the bed. That took care of the dog problem for me. As for the cats, we used to have one fellow who would get bored around 4 AM and play with the chains hanging on a necklace tree. That took care of the cats! When I got married I found out that my wifes dog slept in the bed with her. For the first 2.5 years he slept in between us, we had to buy a bigger bed. Hair, dirt and him licking himself was almost too much.
The joke was that we would have puppies not children, especially when we found out we were having twins. Thankfully he has gotten too old to get on the bed any more, but now he pi$$es on the couch, and I refuse to buy another one.

Two beagles, one insists on sleeping under the covers by our feet. We really don't have a choice, you'd be up all night fighting her so we just gave in. My uncle was in town one weekend while we were away, and he offered to dogsit. He's not a dog person but by 1 am he just gave in and let the dog under the covers.
The older beagle, Chance, likes to sleep on top of the covers with his head up on the pillow. He usually gets kicked out of bed a 10pm, because he's too heavy and won't budge when you roll over. It's like sleeping with a sack of potatos next to you. On the weekends he often gets to sleep on the bed.

My dog, no problem. Short haired, well behaved, stands still for his feet to be wiped when he comes in from outside. Gets in the bathtub "on command" for a bath. Consequently, he is clean with minimal shedding, no smell & does not cause an issue in bed. As you may guess from these statements, he is a very well behaved dog.

In our house - no dogs in the bedroom - definitely not on the bed...
To keep them off - get some of those floor runners (clear vinyl - pokey things on the bottom) and put them pokey side up - it doesn't take em long to realize the couch - or bed is not the most comfortable place.

All the dogs and cats we have had were indoor pets. Dogs only went out to potty or to play fetch or sit with us outside. Otherwise they were inside. Only on rare occasions were the dogs let up on beds, never on other furniture. The cat, well, the cat does whatever it wants.
