OK, before anyone blurts out, "it tastes just like chicken"!
It doesn't. It tastes like beef. KT

I had this nasty sandwhich at Arby's in Oscoda, Michigan one time. I had about 15 items tied together on one sandwhich. And it tasted like crap-
I normally don't eat at places like Arby's, and I normally don't eat the things that are sold at Arby's, such as red meat or other high cholesterol foods. But just this once I happened to be walking past the upper lower Michigan shop [is that grammatically correct?], and realized that I was hungry and hadn't eaten at an Arby's since the late 1970's. The sandwhich I took was silly. It was overdone, and the chain has gone down hill since my last visit in 1979. Why? Because too many flavors hit my tongue at the same time. This thing was like eating a grocery store at one sitting. I'd have preferred one of their plain roast beef sandwhiches. What I had was an "Ostriemuturduckenishhen" sandwhich, I think! Ostrich is very good. N! |

Local brewpub sells burgers of it. It's pretty good grilled and served on a bun, can't say much more than that

Tastes like beef, though with a strange "wild" taste to it. Doesn't beat a good steak though.

Good stuff. Tastes like Emu. I was on vacation in western NC around the same time they were hunting for Eric Rudolph. Emu meat is big there. Everywhere we went we saw wanted posters for Rudolph & signs advertising emu burgers.

I've had it and liked it. It's like a very, very lean beef. If you're going to grill it, I'd be sure to grease the grill since it's so lean that it will stick to a grill like skinless chicken will. Also, since it's so lean, it will get dry fast if you over-cook it. If you're making meat balls or something like that, you might need to add some oil back in. I think my wife ended up adding some Canola or olive oil to moisten it up a little bit.
It's really low in cholesterol, and can generally be used as a drop-in substitute for beef. The taste and consistency are very similar.

I enjoyed it the few times I've had it. There's a place in central Pa. (name escapes me), that has ostrich fillet. Cooked medium rare it was awesome. Great description... tastes like beef with a wild side. And the big plus is the low low fat. Would have it more often but it's hard to find.
And from talking with a friend that has tried raising them it isn't all that easy, a very territorial animal and can disembowel you in a heartbeat, YIKES!!!

Had an ostrich burger someone brought to a beach party years ago. Ruined the party for me and I lost a few friends. For 3 hrs I had to be restrained from trying to stick my head in the sand.

Love that stuff! We used to have a place in Capitola called the Ostrich Bar and Grill. Great food, Real Ostritch eggs at the tables as candle votive holders..
Better than Emu but, not as good as Kanga if it's grilled right.
