I thought the rich line was at $250k. You are doing very well.

In one of the several health care plans Hillary proposed, the "rich" line was at $76k, if I recall correctly. I'm not there yet, but I sure don't consider that "rich".

$250k? That I could handle.

I made more than that last year. Trust me, it's not enough to make you "rich". You'll live okay on it, but you won't be "rich". We're not.

I think compared to the rest of America, $250K is rich. Maybe not wealthy enough to qualify for the "lifestyle of the rich and famous" but certainly rich compared to most of us.

It sure ain't rich where I live. $250k at the height of the housing boom was a down payment, not a home price. And even so, the gov't has no business deciding who's rich and that those people should somehow be penalized for being successful. We should all be taxed at the same rate. If you make 10x what I do, you should pay exactly 10x as much in taxes through a flat tax. Why should renters subsidize homeowners? Why should I be forced to subsidize people who decided to have kids? There should be no deductions. The founding fathers never intended for the gov't. to get into the wealth redistribution business and certainly not into the business of trying to control people's behavior through varying tax rates and loopholes. It's criminal.

you got that right. taxes, as enforced in the USA, are social engineering.

take that discussion over to the POM POM thread and you would empathize with the guy who complains about paying for roads in Denver.

Rick, I think that's more a reflection of the stupidity of some housing markets, rather than the income of those that live in those areas. In most parts of the USA, $250k is pretty damn good.

Totally agree with you on the flat tax though. But when you listen to most politicians, "fair" isn't really their top priority.

See, can someone point to where she said that. I don't think it occurred and away we go with innuendos based upon misinformation.

But I see I side tracked this thread.

Back to the Republicans. As a registered Republican, Ill probably vote for Ron Paul. The others scare me.

I don't know who said > $75k is rich. But it IS the cut off for a single person getting this tax rebate, which is insulting, to say the least. The gov't. doesn't think anyone over that needs it.

$250k for an individual is doing pretty well. But it's by no means rich, especially if you live in NYC. For a couple making that much, it's middle class in a lot of places. Still, it doesn't matter. Economic class should be none of the government's business. They should steal equally from everyone or no one.

The Half Honky, All Donkey thinks that if if you make over $97K you are rich, and has stated that he will punish everyone who does earn that

Quote:
Obama: I've heard you say this is a trillion dollar tax cut on the middle class by adjusting the cap. Understand that only 6 percent of Americans make more than $97,000 — (cheers, applause) — so 6 percent is not the middle class — it's the upper class.
http://www.factcheck.org/clinton_vs_obama.html

Typical liberal, punish those who work hard to get ahead and reward (without requiring working for it) those who don't work as hard & make bad decisions
ANOTHER SAD NOTE, if Half Honky, All Donkey is correct with his 6%, shows that liberals punishing the high achievers, and not encouraging lower income people to make better decisions and try and build them selves & their wealth is working toward socialism

Things weren't so bad when Bill was president, and I'm assuming that you are old enough to remember. People who think another Republican would be the lesser of two evils haven't been reading the papers, and I don't mean the editorial page.

BTW, rich is a relative term, and mere millions isn't what constitutes rich in the Republican playbook. I believe GWB refers to them as ''The Ruling Elite''.

Guess what. They Are. IMO, allowing corporate America to regulate itself isn't such a wise idea. A lot of money can be made by overlooking things such as clean air or water, ethics, or the economic health of The United States of America. The rich are getting Much Richer, and the economy is not so sweet.

To say you are against social and fiscal responsibility for short term economic gain is a little short sighted. The Democrats are not gunning for you. And the fact that you think they are means that you are buying into some serious rumours started by people who are selling you down the river for their own benefit. Not exactly the blind leading the blind, but you are being suckered.

As a business owner, I say BULL ****E, any time you punish the people who invested their time & money to build something and want to leave something for their families, it is wrong, wrong wrong!!! Rewarding people who choose to make payments on 24" gold rims, cell phone, 50" plasma TV, get drunk & stoned every other night and have kids that they can't take care of sends the wrong message, but personal responsibility isn't a dem trait either. Funny, these people cry that they can't afford health insurance, yet make a $600 a month car payment WTF is wrong with that picture??

Mr. Half Honky, All Donkey has never held a real job,
Quote:
A graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, Obama worked as a community organizer, university lecturer, and civil rights lawyer before running for public office and serving in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004. After an unsuccessful bid for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2000, he announced his campaign for U.S. Senate in 2003.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama
he has no clue about running a business or earning a PAYCHECK, AS all he has done is nurse off the liberal tit, at the tax payers expense!!!! Only a fool would vote for him, but then again, if only 6% of the US really makes over $97K a year, there are many of them!!!

So true!
GWB has really soured me on being a Republican.
Looks like the Democrats will likely take this one, and rightfully so.
