In response, both Chevrolet and Pontiac went back to the drawing board, independently, to produce a G-body coupe with improved high-speed stability. Mercedes-Benz just finished a 2.5 year restoration of this one-off 504 K Streamliner - shot in a wind tunnel in a nod to the remarkably aerodynamic design for a car made in 1938............................

The streamliner was not just a beautiful design, rather it was a highly functional reflection of the knowledge that Mercedes-Benz had gained in their research into aerodynamic flow. A standard version of the 540 K had a Cd of 0.57 resulting in a top speed of 140-145km/h - the Streamliner however slashed that figure to just 0.36 and as a result lifted the top speed to around 165-170km/h - a real feat for the era. The autobahns, which were new at the time, offered the ideal conditions for testing. The rather special 540 K was often employed on long-distance runs, for example to Berlin or Hamburg and back, sometimes at night, as Gerd Hammes, the son of Dunlop’s garage foreman, remembers.

Car Style Critic: March 2014

Two views of the 2006 BMW Mille Miglia Concept Coupe. This was inspired by the streamlined racing cars pictured above. I think it is very nicely done. Well, I have a few quibbles such as the lack of doors, but this is a show car, after all, so details that do not affect the overall design can be excused. The front seems to be mostly inspired by the Touring Coupe, while the rest of the design is derived from the Kamm Coupe.

Bull crap.....sustainable means a net gain. Using corn to make ethanol is NOT sustainable as it takes more energy to make it than it yields. The Brazilians use sugar....THAT is sustainable. We should be using beets or saw grass...NOT freaking corn.
