The Isle of Wight connection is the only commercial hovercraft service operating in Europe. Most other routes were squeezed out by catamarans in the 1980s and 1990s.

Hovercraft shipped for Columbia - Bland Group

Griffon Hoverwork recently won a contract with the Columbian Navy, to supply eight 2000TD hovercraft. The first three were shipped to Columbia at the beginning of September, on time and on target for acceptance at the end of the month.

The hovercraft will be deployed in the Amazonian basin to combat insurgencies and drug trafficking.

Columbian Defence Minister Juan Carlos Pinzon said ''This will allow our marines to access the more remote and difficult areas like jungle rivers and creeks.''

The Welbike was a British single-seat motorcycle devised during World War Two at Station IX — the “Inter Services Research Bureau” — based at Welwyn, UK, for use by Special Operations Executive (SOE). It has the distinction of being the smallest motorcycle ever used by the British Armed Forces. Between 1942 and 1943, 3,641 units (plus a prototype and some pilot models) were built and although it was not much used by the SOE, some were issued to the British 1st and 6th Airborne Divisions and some were used at Arnhem during Operation Market Garde.

Apple Computer was incorporated and the first Apple II computers went on sale, and the world's first commercial supersonic transport aircraft, the Tupolev Tu-144, or Concordski as it was affectionately known, entered service. Renzo Piano, Richard Rogers and Gianfranco Franchini's Centre Georges Pompidou opened in Paris, and Hotel California by The Eagles became the biggest hit single of the year. In the year that the first Star Wars movie was released, it's fitting that the Voyager 1 space probe was also launched – now the farthest spacecraft from Earth.

That 2007 concept as I read in one of the links, was experimenting or testing the waters of design and consumer preferences between cars, station wagons, and SUV's. They did something non-descriptive based on the aerodynamic Kammback roof and just tossed it over the wall. It did come out nice though.
