Seeing how Dodge and Plymouth have a goofy lug pattern, there would be no way they'd fit a Ford or a Chevy.

I put plenty of Ford wheels on my Dodges over the years. Early Dodge cars had a pattern of 5 x 4" Around 1970 they changed to the 5 x 4.5" pattern, same as Ford Galaxy and many others.

You may be thinking of the fact the for a number of years, Chrysler products had lugs on one side of the car that screwed on counterclockwise (reverse thread) and clockwise on the other. I don't remember offhand which side was which. It prevented the nuts from coming loose and falling off if they were not tightened properly. That has nothing to do with the wheels or lug spacing. That Dodge has stock '64 body side panels, hood, trunk lid, tailights, grille (modified) and side trim. Interesting. Last edited by tcar; 01-14-2011 at 04:40 PM.. |

As I mentioned, early ones had 5x4 pattern - which was unique to Dodge (afaik). Later had 5x4.5, which was shared with other brands. Year one says the changeover in bolt circle size was 1972. The left hand thread issue ended in 1970. Because the A-arms were interchangeable from year to year, we would just convert any 4" pattern cars to 4.5" pattern. And the left hand lugs could be driven out and replaced easily. This one has the 4" pattern in the photo. It was my second car.

The memory comes from buying (cheap at the time) Dodge fitting US mag wheels for my 56 ragtop bug.
I had to have the adapters made, none off the shelf and I had to take the center caps off to access the lugs. They were too close to the cap to get a lug wrench around them..... |

In the '60s Dodge B & C bodies (and pickups) had the same bolt pattern as similar size Fords. They were different than GMs.

Horton flying wing. It was built by some Northrop (or Lockheed?) employees and I believe is now in the Rueben H. Fleet Museum in San Diego. There was a cable special on it about a year ago, pretty cool.
