The new challenger is a fat car 4000+ lbs.
I just don't get why dealers mark stuff up..really, it is just dumb and turns people off to them big time. I have bought plenty of the hottest cars out new, with no added mark up..87 gnx, 89 Turbo trans am, 95 GTI vr6(yea they had big mark ups when they came out) and even my 03 lancer evo...
The challenger is a nice car for 2 years ago..and like the camaro, destined to be a hit at first and then drop off the radar

Too fat. Why are these cars so fat? It can't be smart to introduce bloated cars with oil/gas prices climbing like they have been. Oh well.

Cashflyer, I agree, I think Dodge is a few years late to this party. Chevy's new Camaro even more so. Just like the '90s, we'll end up with more muscle cars than the market will consume. I wonder if the Mustang will come out on top again?
Yep. For whatever reason Ford has 'em covered on this.

well Mule i agree..they had the retro thing going on the mustang and it hit just right, all the rest are just too far behind, too overhyped and will be over priced in a $4 a gallon economy

You need to be able to fit the fatter American population into it. Hence the trend towards bigger and dumber. SUVs exemplify this trend perfectly.

Haven't driven a 300 or any of it's brothers but i did test drive the newest model Grand Cherokee a year or so ago. It was VERY sporty for an SUV and a big departure from the honest to goodness truck JGC we have right now ('01). It wouldn't surprise me at all to find these latest Chrysler products are not rolly-poly pigs.

Alas $4/gallon has me back thinking Accord.

The Challenger is heavy because it's a slightly modified Charger platform. Because of this, it's nearly as heavy as the 4-door Charger. I assume the 300 is heavier still due to it's luxury focus.

I'd take one (if it was given to me), very cool and my sons would love me to get a "bumble-B" too.

I like most of the retro concepts, but when they hit the streets they are usually far different. Camero, cuda, charger, still waiting for the super-b daytona now the real question is in 40 years if Don Johnson buys one will it sell a Barret Jackson for millions?

Just what we need - more fatass jerkoffs on the road thinking they're "badass" because they drive a souped up Dodge. Ever pay attention to the driving habits of the "wanna be tough guys" driving the 300s and Magnums out there? Jesus. Dodge has become the perfect vehicle maker for the new American Idiocracy. It fits the void left by the no-longer-in-vogue-H2 for the vapid and self-indulgent crowd that wants to show off their small-dick compensators perfectly. 1000X worse than anyone I've ever seen in a P-car. In that sense (targeting a growing audience), Dodge is successful. Take another "same old" formula you've used for years (big, dumb, heavy), put a few "tough" looking lines on it and give it some mean looking headlights (largely ripped off from BMW) and you'll sell millions without having to work too hard at it. Brilliant!

Next they should paint sharks' teeth on the front ends to complete the "tough guy" look. They'd sell even more.

God, it must be easy to be a car designer at Dodge these days. Easy money.

They will sit in the left lane, with all the P/Us and SUVs, nose-to-tail NASCAR style all the while only going 5MPH over the speed limit as the crazed ricers pass them on the right..

I heard on the radio recently (so it must be true, of course) that 20% of drivers do not regularly wear seat belts. The reason? Because 20% of American are too fat for factory seat belts.

Wow. I just thought the car--either the original or the remake--looked pretty good (particularly in orange, or if they would be willing to repeat the Sublime color). And with a sonorous and lusty V8, to boot. What's not to like about that? Didn't realize that that necessarily was some sort of social statement intended by all who would purchase such a vehicle.

At the same time, my sister (who's no car person, but at least is a stylish architect, like you ) has noticed that Magnum owners fit your overaggressive driver stereotype.

With the abundance of extra padding, is a seatbelt necessary?

Gives you some insight into the old joke about the difference between a Porsche & a porcupine, doesn't it?

Hey now! I'm just bummed I didn't think of it myself! I'd be retired living on a yacht in the Caribbean right now!

Dodge really IS making a smart play with these cars - from a marketing perspective. The sad part is that there's such a large contingent of people out there to buy into the hype/stereotype in the first place.

Maybe they should include a free pit bull with the cars? j/k.

It is a good-looking car. But out on the road with others vehicles around, gives you a better sense of proportion. Sort of like looking at your 911 in the garage and then seeing it parked next to almost any 'normal' sedan - the 911 looks positively tiny.

The opposite is true with this Challenger. It is the Titanic of sporty cars!
