To all the fathers of 17 y.o. daughters, let me clue you in. Based on my observations of the 30 or so of my stepdaughters friends I've met, girls are now as aggressive, if not more so, than many of the 17 y.o. boys. I witnessed this with my 18 y.o. step son as well...he literrally had open offers for casual "encounters" on a very very regular basis.

Here was my daughter in 2000. I loaned her bf the car and he got a ticket coming back from their dinner doing 90. And got a warning? Yea, he was a drunkard and after this picture was taken old dad took the car home and didn't have to worry about it being thrashed.

You have just told yourself how you should feel.. You can give your kids the road map but you can't make them follow it. Relax... you trust him and he knows that. If he respects you he won't F that up.

When I was 17 I took my 20 yr old gf to the prom. We've been married almost 32 years now.

That's actually a pretty good move. There's A LOT of things a limo driver won't tolerate from teenagers. Big time legal risk for the limo company.

Of course, as most of you know, there's A LOT of things a limo driver WILL tolerate from drunken adults with wads of cash in their pockets.

Moses Junior Prom is 17 year old, 6 foot 2 inches tall and weighs 190 pounds. The kid can probably bench press Moses Sr. The girl friend is 20 years old and has taken his cherry. She will wait until he is recruited by an Ivy League school and then protect her investment by having a baby. Grandma and Grandpa Moses will then adopt and support the "family" all living under one roof.

Maybe they were listening to "Rock Lobster" and wanted to get into the whole nautical theme?

Well, the prom is over and all went well. My son drove his date to a friends house where a limo took 10 couples to the dance. There was a party after the dance. I told my son that if he or any of his friends needed a ride home at any hour for any reason at all he should call me. No questions asked, no repercussions.

My son got home a little after 2 AM. He was completely sober. I'm so proud of him. I'm such a lucky dad.

Mine didn't turn out quite as well with the twins. Despite my concerns about the nebulous plans for an after prom breakfast/party for the 10 kids going together in one limo at the home of one of the boys, mom overruled my early (2 a.m.) curfew. Stepdtrs assured her it would be a small gathering chaperoned by one of the kid's mother and father. Wife spoke with the mother and assured everything was under control. I still felt uneasy, but I'm just step dad so WTF do I know.

Fast forward to 3 a.m. I awake to find my wife gone. Call her cell. She's at the S.O. picking up one of the twins. She, along with 33 other teens, is being charged with MIP (minor in possession). Seems the quiet after prom party turned into major happening. The other step dtr and her bf heard the police and escaped to the woods where they hid until wife could go pick them up. The parents who "chaperoned" this gala ran and hid in the attic when the police arrived leaving their 18 y.o. son to deal with the police. They have since been charged with 34 counts of providing alcohol to minors and 16 counts of contributing to delinquency of minors under age 18.

Fortunately no parents were summoned to the morgue.

I'm sure. And these weren't some peckerwood trailer trash folks. Mom is an insurance exec and dad is a CPA. They live in an upscale neighborhood in a 5500 sf home with pool and tennis court. They're cool parents...now we know why.

We do not allow the kids' friends to drink at our home. NOW they understand that policy, I hope.

PS: FWIW and since I'm often accused of bashing LEO's, it was handled in a totally professional manner despite smart mouth's from some of the kids per my wife's account.
