still have ties with "the farm" there, sat around the table with them at uncles wedding, they came over to us this time...

i've tasted Calvados that cannot be purchased, anywhere
Not even if P-Diddy himself got out his cheque book or offered to trade all the bling on his person...

you'll get a bottle , if they really like who you are

(taking Belgian Beer along does help in that respect, Jean the old man on the farm really loves em )

Well, let's see. I live in France and am regularly invited to every event for miles around. People come to me for advice here. I buy and sell property here. I have to deal with the legal, cultural and social rules in order to profit. And I have been doing this for almost 25 years.

And your experience is that you have family in France?

Maybe you are treated that way because you cannot exist without the attitude that "USA is #1" dripping form your actions at every turn. Clueless indeed.

Hey, there's no accounting for taste. I have to agree with the Belgian above (first time for that, by the way) that there is a lot more to wine than the basic grape.

There are good California wines but to say that overall, they are superior to French wines, is just hogwash. Seriously. Not worth arguing about.

I have seen a program on the History Channel featuring the French Foreign Legion. They produce some tuff solders as does the French military. Anyone who 'shows up' has my respect. I don't care where they come from.

I've never read any account of a military leader worth his salt discounting the French fighting man.

Like most professional armies, their weak spot is the political system.

Hell, I think most anyone here respects soldiers...alive or dead...but when you belittle your own President...and the very cause the soldiers died for...you are the disrespectful one...who turned a eulogy to some fine soldiers who died for a righteous cause...into a tactless political thread. Congrats.

Omar Brady does in, 'A Soldiers Story'.

I'm not sure I agree...he was commenting on tank battalions right after Paris was retaken.

Remember, though, the German's facing Omar were resting and refitting.

Its a shame 10 French soldiers die fighting the common enemy and we just can't salute them for their sacrifice.

My apologies if I over stepped my bounds. They are indeed brave and worthy men, whom I will salute.

The important aspect is now the families of the fallen, same as ever. No more smilies.

Seahawk, my post wasn't aimed at you. It was the tone the thread took that bugged me.

Fair enough...I imagine none of us could have stood their watch. Worth remembering.

Now, now, let's not make sweeping innuendos. Not all German units on the Western Front were there for rest and refit and the French armor units at that time were spotty. Some good, some not so good.

I know this is pointless to try to get through to you ...but I said take the president out of the statement. But as always you can only focus on that. I can admit that I should not have put W in the mix, I will even go back and change it if that will help you focus on the real point. I did that and now you still don't see what I was saying ..I mean you are telling me what I was saying but you are so blinded by the W factor you can even read that in what I said. I was asking for respect for the dead. Yet you still don't see it.

Another mini brain.
