The 916 is really the bees knees in modern sportbike styling. It's the iconic Ducati, and without its race successes Ducati wouldn't be a household name today. The Bostrom livery is obnoxious, but I love it. I'm kinda kicking myself for passing on one a few years back. Pete is right in that back in the early 90s, it was uncommon to see a Duc on the street. Now they're everywhere.

I've got a carby '93 900SS that looks pretty much like everyone else's here, and I found an old pic of my 888 with my daughter imitating Rollie Free on it.

Yes, a '91. Good eye/memory.
I agree with all that you've said.
Only mods were a slightly fattened chip and a pair of Carbon Tech cans from a local family-owned company in town (Menlo Park, CA.) Sold them/chip separately.
Was paid $2,100 more than I paid - and I paid full price.
Big regret. But what's new?

Looking very dapper Italian there, Don! I had those EXACT same boots around 1985. Trying to remember the name of them.... they were so comfortable. I wore them all day long. Couldn't take em off

My first Duc, a 750 Paso, circa 1999 at Laguna Seca for the GP races:

I bought a 998 new in 02, and promptly tracked it at California Speedway. I was used to racing 250 GP bikes at the time, so I was overly ham-fisted, resulting in lurid rear wheel slides out of corners, and engine locking into the corners. After about 10 laps, I decided I was going to throw away my new $18K bike, so I parked it.

2001 Monster 900i.e. that I had in the early 2000s. Never really warmed up to it for some reason.

2006 800SS, currently. I like this one better.

Yes...good memory. Trying to think of their name, as well.
I loved them.
Not much protection but they felt like ballerina slippers - great feel for the gears!

Be careful, there.

Not that it matters so much, as there are already many pics of the 996S, but spilled a Vodka/tonic on my other computer's keyboard last week and I can't fetch my photos today - can't get past the white screen. Mother board fried, I guess. Bummer. Oh well, just another 996S is all...Number 252.

Edit: Richard, you had a six-pack back in your younger days, eh? To ride well, we had to be in shape - I remember.

I liked my 2000 Monster, but it was not my favorite either. The FI throttle response was kind of non linear, it was geared too tall, and the handling did not inspire confidence.

It used to be that owning a Paso wasn't something you didn't really talk about around your Duc friends, if you know what I mean.... but I think the cool factor is coming back for them. The bodywork is hand-laid fiberglass, so finding one with a decent body is probably going to be difficult. They were also prone to very weak charging systems, so I wouldn't count on one being reliable. The front wheel is 16", and last I checked, it was next to impossible to find front tires. That being said, they are beautiful bikes, IMHO, and I think they'll be collectable one of these days.

Richard, Mr. six pack, the Paso's I rode (friend's) were as you described.
Also, the only thing the Paso mirrors did for me was to give me a good shot of my elbows.

"...collectable one of these days."
Perhaps so...they're far enough back in history.
Didn't they have some intake issues, also?...as per the 750 Sport?
