wow.. that is horrible X2. Condolences again.

I lost a step nephew 2 years ago. Hung himself from an oak tree. He had some issues, but was a respectful, pleasant young man of 24. Hard to see it coming most times.

Well, that news is extraordinary in a bad way. I'm sorry to hear this.

I had to say something to show care before addressing something else here. I don't think tabs is that far off as the danimal says:

Sounds to me that both may have some personal experience.

Thanks Milt,,
Here's a few more details,, apparently she has spoken with her mother not 15 minutes before and sounded fine.. then discussed suicide with her roomates after that,, they begged her to get some help, crisis prevention center etc.... She then apparently took a pistol from her roomates room and put it in her backpack - unknown to anyone and left.. guess they heard the shot and found her outside..
Really sad 21 y.o. senior at Michigan State great grades... Depression is really a disease and unless you've lived it I don't think anyone can understand.. you don't live in the same reality as someone suffering from it.

My God, what a terrible time for your family. My thoughts and prayers will be with you and yours.

As I said in my post a couple of days ago, you just never really know what is in someone's thoughts.

Everyone that these people knew are affected forever.

9dreizig--please talk to someone about these events if the grief or emotions become overwhelming. I'm not sure that Pelican would qualify as "therapy" but we are here for you if you feel the need to talk. I can PM my cell phone # if you need it.

I will thanks, I'm pretty sure I"m ok in all of this.. I'm more concerned about my kids, parents, brother etc...
On another really sad note, my bro is a HUGE MSU fan ( we're both alumni), don't think he'll ever be able to enjoy a MSU/ND game again - he was so happy to have a daughter going there ironic huh ??

I am very sorry for your losses. Try and maintain a positive perspective in the middle of all this. More negativity in an already overwhelmingly negative moment will not help anyone most especially you.

People make choices that govern themselves and others around them. Sometimes those of us outside those choices can only decide what we will do after a bad choice has been made.

This in my view is your situation now. Make good choices, accept what you can not change, move forward.

You and yours will be on my mind, good luck!

James

I agree, more that being overcome with grief I guess I'm thinking 'there but a roll of the dice could be me" as any parent can only imagine..

I had a cousin who committed suicide about 10 yrs. ago. It was pretty rough. I was there when they wheeled her body out of the house.
Heinz and his wife Waltraud (Wally) lived near me and Wally still lives in the same house in Grosse Ile, MI. One of my family used to be Heinz's private secretary and she said that he was greatly troubled by his depression and nothing that was tried seemed to help. He was a great man and was admired by many, but the disease (depression) got the best of him and he hanged himself with the power cord from a vacuum cleaner in his pool house. Very sad... I believe that mental illness is the single worst thing that we face in our lives... So much tragedy and sadness are caused by it.

They say that Richard Cory owns one half of this whole town
With political connections to spread his wealth around
Born into society, a banker's only child
He had everything a man could want: power, grace, and style

But I work in his factory
And I curse the life I'm living
And I curse my poverty
And I wish that I could be
""
Oh I wish that I could be
Oh I wish that I could be
Richard Cory

The papers print his picture almost everywhere he goes
Richard Cory at the opera, Richard Cory at a show
And the rumor of his parties and the orgies on his yacht!
Oh he surely must be happy with everything he's got

But I, I work in his factory
And I curse the life I'm living
And I curse my poverty
And I wish that I could be

Oh I wish that I could be
Oh I wish that I could be
Richard Cory

He freely gave to charity, he had the common touch
And they were grateful for his patronage and they thanked him very much
So my mind was filled with wonder when the evening headlines read:
"Richard Cory went home last night and put a bullet through his head"

But I, I work in his factory
And I curse the life I'm living
And I curse my poverty
And I wish that I could be
Oh I wish that I could be
Oh I wish that I could be
Richard Cory

Sad sad news.

Some people have extreme sadness, way before they reach adulthood; and alcoholism sometimes makes it worst.
I can understand a person having two sides: great guy when sober, bad guy when drunk... I have known a few..

For what ever reason, life was to tough to bear.. Sad.. Especially for who found him in the garage...

Well what I've learned through this whole process is you often can't see it coming.. and clearly it's mental illness that nobody can possibly understand why they would do it.. both of these people were loved by everyone around them.. I'm just happy that both of my sons have independently said " that's never the answer" I worry about the scars that this has left on my brother his wife and son, and my ex wife. I'm sure everyone else will be fine, I'm just not sure losing a spouse or child is ever totally recoverable......
