No Matt. I am not celebrating that USC beat a descent ASU team 28-0. USC is not my personal end all be all team. I happen to like a lot of teams and particularly enjoy supporting teams from the West.
What I do find "funny" is how KSU, LSU, Mizzou, Georgia, Florida and other SUPER TEAMS from around the country have lost too. Thats right. They ate SHYTE! Even "your" teams from the mighty Big 12. So, I guess I am just coat tailing on to your original genius thread title "Go USC!!!". I gotta say you were so right! Mike |

I gotta admit, you got me on that one. The Missouri game was particularly shocking.Quote:
KSU sucks this year, I've never maintained anything else. USC lost to an average, unranked team. Can you really maintain that it's the same as #1 Oklahoma losing to #5 Texas? Or #11 Florida beating #4 LSU? Or even #17 OSU beating #3 Missouri? I don't think I'd define losing to another ranked opponent as "eating shyte". Furthermore, USC does not play another ranked team this year. Not ONE. Look at the schedule for any Big 12 or SEC team. They actually play real competition. Even a 2-loss team from the Big 12 or SEC will have more quality wins than USC.

Texas, OK, and Florida should be ahead of USC in the rankings IMO.
I put USC at #4 and that is generous. I've been saying it since mid-summer, Mark Sanchez is really not up to leading a #1 team. I think they'd be a better team with Mustain or even red-shirt freshman Arron Corp at the helm. I think corp is the future star on this team ,he and true freshman tight end Blake Ayers. That kid is really something. Big, great blocker, and soft hands. USC has an incredible defensive backfield and pass rush but their defensive line's tackling leads allot to be desired and their offense is too unpredictable. Flashes of brilliance followed by periods of mediocrity. Too many penalties, too many mistakes, they can't rely on pure talent to cover up their screw-ups against a really good team. Even if by some fluke they made it to the BCS championship game I don't think they can beat a team like Florida or Texas. It might be close but I don't believe USC would come out on top. My final prediction? The BCS will come down to Texas #1, Florida #2, and USC#3, OK #4 in January. |

Matt:
I agree the SEC is an amazingly tough conference year in and year out. It is far and away tougher than any other in college football. But, with that exception, no other conference can clearly and consistently claim to be a perennial powerhouse like the SEC can. It is just not that clear cut. That is what makes college football so interesting. Now, I appreciate your passion for the Big 12. It is a lot of fun to root for "your teams". I know, because that is what I do for teams from the West. But, your caustic and overblown reaction to USC losing a single game combined with your seeming need to defame the PAC 10 to elevate the mighty Big 12 and cling to the coat tails of the SEC is pathetic. I can feel you starting to squirm and regret posting this thread to begin with. And, I have a feeling you are going to have a lot more crow to eat before this college football season is over. Not for your lack of skill in choosing winners or losers (great job so far!), but for your caustic attack on a team and a conference that you happen to hate. Next time, you may want to focus your enthusiasm on the teams you like instead of starting entire threads intent on offending others. Mike |

This, I agree with. If they were, I probably wouldn't be so delighted whenever they do whup on a top ten team.

Yes, but I was reffering to Ohio state, and didn't intend and reference to a previous post about OSU.
The sooners and Penn state are puzzling. Yes they are good, but for some reason I think they will both fade down the stretch. I've watched both teams play and can't help but think they're over-achievers and won't keep it up. I've been wrong before though. |

all of Joe Paterno's teams over-achieve -- that is why they call him god in Happy Valley.

Wow. USC scored a touchdown (10 total) on every single possession except 3, two punts and one at the end of half when the ran the clock out. 69-0 against a very weak Washington state. 621 total offensive yards to 116, USC only threw one pass in the 4th quarter.
Bama is only up by 4 in the 4th quarter, Penn st is down by 3 in the 3rd, might be some more shaking up the rankings this week. Last edited by sammyg2; 10-18-2008 at 03:46 PM.. |

Pretty serious beat-down by USC, but as you said Washington State wasn't much of an opponent. USC is ranked entirely too high.
PSU has it wrapped up, OU ran away with the game, and Alabama pulled it out. Looks like the status quo is king this week. Missouri-Texas should be a good one tonight.

28-0, I think we're seeing Missouri exposed. Looks like I'm watching KSU-CU and baseball.

69:0 is pretty amazing. My wife went to UCLA, my sister went to USC, I worked at USC for a summer in 78 which was excellent.
![]() ![]() I spent the summer collecting water samples between Long Beach and Catalina on a research vessel and spent the afternoons chasing girls on the Strand in Venice. The main reason I moved to El Aye when I graduated from college.

Gee..I heard a stat yesterday that surprised me...
The #1 running back in the pac 10? (Yards gained rushing) The #1 QB in the pac 10? (yards gained passing) Hint: They don't play for USC. GO BEAVERS! Oh...not that anybody cares, but the Beavers beat Washington yesterday. That's no biggie, poor Washington hasn't won a game this year. Oregon State has yet to lose a game on their home turf. Too bad LSU isn't coming to Corvallis this year.
