Perfect addition to a beautiful home.

I love that style. In my humble opinion, it is so elegant and enduring.

Daepp, that's a beautiful house! And the new porch looks terrific. Your use of materials honored the house design well.

That's a nice place and the new portion is looking fantastic. I have to say, the masons must be your guys. They do really clean work. Love the concrete counter. Its difficult to find people who do nice finish work and take their time to get it done just right. Most take will take that steel towel give it once over and they are walking to their trucks because they are used to doing rough work. Looking great, did you do the design work. BTW, I love the super clean cheek cuts and connections on the big timber.

Thanks Jeff and others - I'll take all the design credit (if that counts when what your really doing is trying to stay true to the original), and my guys and I did all the concrete work. The block, brick and tile work, along with the timbers were all done by a local craftsman I've used for years.
We've done quite a lot of other work, including re-roofing (once the patio roof structure was complete) with original two-piece clay tile, and taken care of a lot of deferred maintenance. There's a 1200' guest house (ADU) in the offing that I'll try to document; we have planing commission approval and have two years before we ground - but hopefully we will start in the next 6 months.

They're from a company out of NOLA named Flamebeaux. My family has been in and around New Orleans for nearly 300 years, and as I spent most of my summers there I grew up with gas "hurricane" lamps and gas front porch lamps.

Fast forward to maybe 5 years ago, one of my cousins built a man-cave/porch/cigar lounge behind his home, and he hung a huge one over the center of the space. Even before I bought the new house I was thinking of ways to incorporate one at my place. Once I moved I rang up my cousin for a referral and ordered 4, smaller wall-mount lamps - knowing I would use them eventually, but before I even started building my patio!

This is hastily snapped photo of my cousin's:

For my purposes, I opted for the additional protection of a thermocouple. I'm not sure if they're were really necessary but I ponied up for them nonetheless:

FWIW, I'm a little nervous clogging up this thread - most people are just posting a single "before" and a single "after" photo. I guess I got a little carried away -perhaps I should have started a "show your remodel" thread...??

I wasn't wearing it much, didn't care for the bash. I'm going to a Halloween party so I thought I'd re-bash and weather the hat for the party, grifter style...

Some kids at the natural history museum ask the janitor emptying waste bins how old a dinosaur was in the museum. Janitor says 200 million and thirty two years old. They ask how can he be so precise. He says when I started working here they said it was 200 million years old.

My new to me Tejas 2040 before.

After cleaning and removing the rust and then painting the firebox with high temp heat.
Lots of smoke while re-seasoning of the cook chamber.

Have a couple of cooks on it so far and it has been nice to have the extra grill space for low and slow compared to my large BGE.

Thanks!
It was a fair amount of work but stickburners are very few and far between up here and the price was very good.

Step 1 remove stump

Step 2 clean out weeds

Step 3 get recommendation from friend to make it a fire pit
Step 4 align fire pit, realize too close to house

Step 5 move fire pit, realize have to move retaining wall

Step 6 move retaining wall

Step 7 realize the fire pit stone you had laying around the property won't work as you don't have enough, clean out weeds 2nd time

Step 8 buy new fire pit stone
Step 9 clean out weeds for 3rd time
Step 10 build fire pit

Step 11 finished wall
Step 12 lay down plastic and river rock

Step 13 Light fire! I'm not completely done, still a little clean up, but at least I can use it now that it is getting cooler out
