Jaime's pressure went up over night a few times and her liver enzymes are elevated. Please pray that will be taken care of.

Jaime's pressures were better today. The doctor is watching the liver enzymes. They are slowly cutting back on her sedation. At the family meeting we discussed putting in a trach tube and a stomach tube. Doctors don't like to leave the respirator in the throat much longer than 2 weeks. That is planned for tomorrow so please say a few extra prayers that she tolerates that well. I will try to update when we have a time so we can pray especially during that time. Also please pray that her pupils will return to normal especially the one on the side of the injury. Again I greatly appreciate all your prayers and the entries in the guestbook!

Praise the Lord! The procedure today went well and some time after 5:00 I saw eye meovemnt under her eyelids and awhile later while the nurses were working with the trach her one eye opened alittle. Later still, while I was holding her hand it moved and than she squeezed it. When Kurt got there and he talked to her she squeezed his hand. Please keep praying for continued progress, and that her temps stay low, the blood platlets are where they are supose to be as they are alittle high, and her heart rate is where it is supose to be. one more thing, pray that she does not develop any blood clots. Thank you so much.

Yes it is. Considering the accident was on Dec. 22 and Kurt and Deb have been by Jaime's side nonstop since then, I'd say they are due some good news.
Thanks all.

I know a guy who's bud would man-handle him while he was in a coma every day for weeks. In between the rough stuff he'd just talk gibberish for an hour or so looking for a reaction. The doc's wrote the coma guy off and telling his bride to start preparing to lead a life without him. At one time some nurses said "don't do that", then "don't do that or we'll call security". Needless to say he didn't back off. Security eventually shows up. "I've been fighting with him since we were in the playpen. Leave us the Fuch alone. I fish with your boss and I'm in no mood to call him now". They did.
Finally in the middle of one man-handling session a grunt was heard by all in the room from the comma guy. It was no more than a grunt. "did he say something? what did he say?". The guy's friend said "He said he wants cold water. Go get him a glass of water. Go get him water. Now." They both won that fight. They're back fishing and hanging out again. Call it faith or hard assed in-your-face teamwork or anything you want. Whatever it was it worked.

I was told this would be a rollercoster ride and it is. one step forward and two back! Jaime isn't as responsive today though she moves just a little. The doctors are now concerned about her platelet count which is high and could cause blood clots so they want to put a basket in her aorta to filter out the blood clots if they should form. Another surgery! It is scheduled for Monday morning if we choose to do it. Please pray about the platelets, surgery and continued healing.

Getting up to date on Deb's journal entries
SATURDAY, JANUARY 10, 2009 08:47 AM, CST
Jaime's heart rate is high so they are doing a CTscan to see if they can tell why.PRAY! SATURDAY, JANUARY 10, 2009 12:39 PM, CST They found blood clots in her lung and are planning on putting a basket in her vena cava to catch clots. They might have to give her heparin, a blood thinner which is a little risky because of her injury. Surgery is today but we don't have a time yet.. PRAY SATURDAY, JANUARY 10, 2009 06:01 PM, CST Jaime came through the surgery ok. Now we are watching the blood clot already in her lungs in hopes that it will be absorbed by her body. Next two days are the most critical. Thank you for all your prayers SATURDAY, JANUARY 10, 2009 10:10 PM, CST Still concerned about Jaime's high heart rate. Pray that God continues to guide the doctors and nurses. And that she can handle the heparin.

Jaime is maintaining. Heart rate is still on the high side.Heparin is being tolerated so far. She is fighting a low fever. She opened her one eye today and there is some movement in her hands. We are somewhat hopeful. If anyone wants to stop up and visit, I am usually in her room or the waiting room in the afternoons. Please continue with your prayers.

Jaime is still holding steady. The cerebral fluid looks very clear today and the nurse moved the drain up to 15 from 10 and she seemed to tolerate that ok today. This is the process of seeing if her body can now take over the drainage or if she will need a permanent shunt. They are also weaning her off the respirator very slowly. Her heart rate was up and down today but tonight it was the lowest I have seen in 3 or 4 days. Pray that continues to stay low. The blood clots still scare me so pray they dissolve on their own and cause her no damage. She recieved another unit of blood on Saturday when she had her surgery so the blood bank is again asking for blood donors. Thank you for all your prayers and notes. They help us get through each day. Please continue.

As I agree. We need more blood donations around the country. We as a community can never know when we need them!
Praying for you. Mike |

Jaime had a good day. She was off the respirator all day, breathing on her own. Pressures remain low. Tomorrow between 4 and 6 am they will do another CT scan to see how the fluid filled spaces look. She opened her one eye and looked at both of us for about 20 min but she only looks to one side. Say an extra prayer that the CT scan shows everything working OK tomorrow and that we continue to move ever so slowly forward
