They did send the old parts back, too.
Pictures to follow.
Thanks for following this thread and for all your input!
Edit: The difference between the bands is very noticeable when they are side by side, but the new band is very nice.
I am very happy with the way it turned out.

Small price to pay for a wonderful gift to your dad, yourself and your son (if you have one.)

A family heirloom....priceless.

Hopefully the guy in the last picture will be the next one to wear it after me....

My folks arrive home from Yuma next week, and I plan on giving the watch back to dad when they get back.
I haven't come up with a good way to do this yet, any ideas?

Maybe just hand it to him and say " Hey you forgot this" or "Isn't this yours?"

You just casually wear it to see if he notices. String him along a bit aboit you remember him having a similar one. Then just hand it to him with a smile.

Nice watch. That looks like a Caliber 321 Speedmaster with a column wheel movement. It will outlast everone alive today if taken care of. You should watch Apollo 13, it stars in that movie

Give him the old parts in a plastic bag and tell him a story of how it got lost down the garbage disposal.

That turned out nice! Congrats.

Were they not able to restore the original bracelet?

No, the bracelet was pretty much bagged, although they did send the old one back with the parts.

I've enjoyed this story from beginning to end. Probably because it really isn't about just another expensive watch...

What a wonderful story. Good on you for doing this, it will mean alot to your dad that you did this.
My dad passed all his fly fishing rods and gear down to me, and every time I fly fish I think of him. One of my greatest moments was recently rebuilding one of my dads' rods, (a great light weight stream rod and reel with flys' that my dad and I had tied back in the sixties), and giving it to my 30 year old stepson who lives in Denver and who has just started fly fishing. After his first fishing trip with the rod, he called all excited "Geez, it was like you and your dad were with me in the stream".
Looking forward to a planned fishing trip in the Rockies this spring.

By the way, GREAT WATCH!

I am sorry that I don't have any photos or pictures of the presentation of the watch back to my dad, but the reuniting of owner and watch went very well.
I wore the watch all evening hoping that someone would notice, but no go. Finally when my dad was playing with my son, I said "You know what Liam really likes to play with? His dad's watch!" I handed my dad the watch and he looked at it for quite some time and I told him that it was his watch.
He was thrilled, and wanted to give it back right away but we insisted that he keep it at least for a little while.
More to the story. His younger brother had bought him the watch while on leave in Holland. He was stationed in Germany and was a radio/radar tech.
His brother had passed away a few years ago. He had a pretty rough life after his wife had died from cancer.
While it was a great pleasure to be able to do this for my dad, I will admit at first my intentions were kind of selfish. My wife gently suggested that it was great that I was doing this for my dad. I guess that is why they call them "the better half".
For now that is the end of my little story.

Not anymore, if the factory replaced the movement. If it is a 321, I hope he received the old movement back. A 321 mov't is $$$, working or not.
