I can't wait to get the hell out of this town and this state, frankly. I've said it before and I'll say it again - the ONLY thing that keeps me here right now is the fact that my wife loves her job with Disney and I'm trying to keep her happy. If it weren't for that, I'd be long gone from this dump already. I'd get the F out of southern California and let it collapse under the weight of its own idiotic socialist policies, illegals and uneducated gangbanga-wanna-be dirtbag population.

It's going to hell in a handbasket. The ghetto creeps closer and closer each year. It used to be everything within about 10 blocks of the beach was pretty much okay - now it's more like 4. I can literally walk less than 10 minutes from my front door and feel like I'm in the third farkin' world with eyes peeking out at "the gringo" from behind their mini blinds and hushed voices whispering to each other in Espanol from behind their closed, locked and barred doors. Nothin' like feeling like a stranger and like you're in constant mortal danger in your own country, within 10 minutes of home - that you're paying a fortune for the "privilege" of living in.

Believe me, I'm making my plans to leave now. Being unemployed is a good motivator for some life-reassessment. This isn't the same California I fell in love with a decade ago and it sure as hell ain't the same Long Beach community I fell in love with five years ago. Both have deteriorated with alarming speed, and are trending further downward as time goes on. Are there good parts? Sure. Are there good aspects? Absolutely. But they're getting harder and harder to find and more and more unaffordable. The best opportunities are no longer here, driven out by relentless government persecution of the successful to support the dullards and the deadbeats. It used to be that SoCal was a mecca for success, positive energy and opportunity. Now it's just become a magnet for leeches, scumbags, thieves and inconsiderate arseholes.

I wouldn't live in L.A. again if they paid me to. Overcrowded, noisy, chaotic overpriced schithole. Not that the L.B.C. is much better these days. But I still thank whatever God there is on any given day I don't have to go to (or near) Villagrossa's Cesspool.

Frankly, she's nuts for not waking you...he could have been a look out.

Seriously- you need to have a talk with your wife.

If you remember, I said this in my first post:

Well, I saw a neighbor today who told me I was wrong: we have four police cars patrolling a 26-mile radius, which increases to six police cars after 4PM.

With protection like that, a person could be shot, robbed, set afire, then buried in their own back yard before a cop arrives to wonder WTF is going on...

It's really come down to protecting yourself and your own. But sure as the sun shines, you shoot, or even physically restrain one of these perps inside your own house or out in the back yard, and you might get arrested, but you most certainly will be sued by the perp or the perp's family.

I'm not clear on what police per sq. mile or capita has to do with anything. Police don't protect people and aren't legally required to. They take reports, clean up the mess and chase criminals AFTER the crime has been committed. Rely on a cop for protection and you'll always be disappointed.

That's one nice thing about Santa Clarita, we contract with LA Sheriffs, and we get what we pay for. A friend of mine was on the City Council for a while and when they started contracting with the Sheriffs the general tenor was set, how many DUI check points do you want to pay for? To what extent do you want us to pull kids over at 2 AM? How many cruisers do you want from midnight till 4AM?

We actually get our monies worth out of the Sheriffs.

They send out the new recruits for street patrol here. Not sure why. We do have our yearly spat of car break-ins, but they are parked on the street and being close to freeway on/off ramps does make for a quick get away.

Not in this state you won't. We have a Castle Doctrine law which basically says that if if a someone breaks into your home, your occupied vehicle, or your business, that you may presume he is there to do harm or committ a felony and you may use any force against them up to and including deadly force without the need to attempt retreat. This law also provides protection for the property owner from criminal or civil litigation if you take this action.

Which is nice.

What you are referring to, sir... is the much heralded and sought after "diversity."

Not that some of the same crap can't happen... or has happened to some degree to Disneyland, but have you thought about asking your wife what she'd think of Florida?

I doubt California will pass the Castle laws. If you are no billed (not prosecuted) for a proper shooting, the perp and the family cannot sue in civil court.

Are you relying on a police slogan to override several Supreme Court decisions? Fact is the police have no obligation to protect individuals or even to respond to your 911 call. Even if they did, they only come AFTER the crime has been reported, which means you're SOL.

Not sure what you're asking here... I was making a joke about "diversity." Referring to the way diversity is spoken of as some great politically correct idea.... it's always portrayed as if it is something that should be fostered and sought out at all costs, no matter what the unintended consequences? Then I gave the eyeroll emoticon.

I fully agree.

Porsche-O-Phile, if Florida appeals to you and your wife in the least, it might be worth her checking out job opportunities at Disneyworld.

Police have no legal obligation to protect individual citizens. I'm not sure what message you're trying to convey with the web site?

Home invasions are up here in the metro Detroit area (big surprise) and I'm taking the necessary steps to protect my family. Remember, "When seconds count, the police are minutes away"...

I'd rather live with and among diversity than amongst some boring town where everyone looks the same, acts the same, and has the same POV.

The fact is no one in my neighborhood blames any one race, color or political motivation concerning the robberies. The most I heard, and at that from a very conservative Caucasian neighbor, is they're kids.

So to think diversity has anything at all to do with these robberies, particularly as this is an ethnically diverse neighborhood, is ridiculous.

But I can always bring the diversity-robbery issue up to the black FBI agent who lives the next block over, or the half-Lebanese paramedic next door. Sometimes it looks like those guys can use a good laugh.

The slogan on the web site speaks for itself, as does what I wrote about 4 cars per 26-square miles. There is not enough police protection for the neighborhood. I did not suggest individual protection. The last thing I want is a uniformed cop hanging around my house.

But "To protect and serve if it suits us and it isn't going to be really inconvenient" wouldn't fit on the side of the car.

All PDs protect the citizenry in the general sense of taking criminal predators off the streets. Obviously they cannot stop all crime from ever occurring. I always find that whole argument insipid, does anyone really believe that the police can prevent all crime?

LOL! Unless the text runs to the rear doors.

IIRC, San Diego police used to have "Commitment To Excellence" on their doors, but the type was so small, I could barely read it.
