We get most stuff at Stater Bros., no club cards, no union and the butcher will double bag fresh bacon/chicken for freezing. We buy our milk and eggs at local drive thru dairy where it's fresher and about 30% cheaper than in the stores.

Back when I lived in San Diego, I went to Ralphs and bought some chicken breasts. I opened them up and they were rotten, and still in Date. I took them back. They asked if I wanted to replace them? ARE YOU KIDDING?
I used to go to "Food 4 less" and Vons, but Vons only if I needed something quick. Costco and Sams Club when I had the time. Here in Houston, mostly we shop at Kroger, which I think is corporately connected with Vons. We definitely shop Costco and Sams. I HATE shopping at Randalls, since the prices are 25% higher. We have a local Whole Foods, called Central Market. I took my mother down there, to show her the place. OMG, the Ribeye were $25/lb! Fiesta - La tienda por los latinos (my wording!), is actually very nice, lots of food you won't find elsewhere. And Phonetian, kinda like a Stumps/Barrons. Nice place, I even found Romanian wine!

We dumped our local Ralph's when the Trader Joe's opened up. Less money for groceries at TJ's and a more interesting selection too.

Yea Wild Oats is nice but extremely spendy. Some stuff you can only find there though, so occasionally for certain things it's worth it.

Central Market, if it's weird, they have it. But very spendy!

When we are in OKC we shop at crest.
Other than that its the walmart supercenter. Hate to say it but the food is better and cheaper than the local run by crackwhore stores. |

Ralphs/Vons sucked big time during the strike a couple years back. Getting the evil eye from picketing folks while you walk out the door with near rotten veggies sucks. We turned to Costco, Sprouts, and Major market since then.

Yea, forgot about the strike. Another reason to dislike those chains...

That's what I was thinking. My wife's aunt shops there for reasons that make no sense to me.

You California types may have the weather, but we have Wegmans! The best grocery store in the world, I kid you not. We have the flagship near us, rumored to be the largest store in the U.S. The produce area alone is larger than most supermarkets. Terrific selection and a walk in beer cooler to boot. Chosen as one of the 10 best places (not just stores) to work for the past 14 years in a row. It almost makes up for the non-use of the sports car for 5 months out of the year.

My neighborhood has an overgrown bodega that passes as a grocery store. They have very little and it is expensive. I try to do most of my shopping with the local butcher, baker, pork store, veggie market, pasta store and Italian specialty store..
