There is a difference between mechanical accuracy potential and the ability of the shooter to utilize that potential. Some guns are better than others in allowing the shooter to reach their mechanical accuracy potential. Single actions are notorious for being difficult in this regard; there is no hard "index" when gripping them. By design, they roll up in the hand under recoil. And I don't care what the grip shape may be, you definitely have to re-grip the big boomers after every shot. Having a .22 that mimics that makes for good practice.

What do you do about the triggers in these Ruger MKII and MKIII?
That was the worst part of the Ruger for me.
I know they have kits but why buy a gun that needs upgrades to qualify as average?
Is it just the cheap price?

I held the Rugers and they are all over the map wrt fitting my hand. The new "polymer" ones don't feel good at all.

I've also got a line on using ranges up at Ft. Irwin as well...just need to sort out the logistics. Of course with shipping and our 10 day period I'll have it in my hands in March. In the mean time the 10/22 comes home tomorrow and the Mini 14 Thursday. Then the 870 next week. The zombies will not be pleased.

Next up is a reasonably priced gun safe (I currently have a pistol safe). Anyone have suggestions? Probably a 10 gun version...

Sights on that Browning look strange from the side, I wonder what shows from the rear? Would that you were a bit closer, I have trouble with the MSR on the new stuff I see here.
I guess my taste runs more toward the vintage end (but not quite in the same place with Tabs).

I also recall the 22WMR has a slightly larger bullet diameter than the 22LR. Very slightly larger, but enough that some say the Single Six is less mechanically accurate with 22LR than it is with 22WMR. I do not know if that is true, I never checked. I used to plink with it a lot, didn't fire it at the range much because my other pistols were more accurate (in my hands), and my Single Six spent most of its later life loaded w/ snake shot, stashed in the tool chest, ready to dispatch rats. Which it did a few times. The pistol disappeared in our move, I think the packers may have stolen it. I still have the 22WMR cylinder and that's all.

This thread made me go to Gander Mountain on the way home from work today to see which one I "need". Tried on a Ruger MkIII "target" and a Browning Buckmark "standard" with the molded grips. The Buckmark fit much nicer. D@mn, now I "need" to round one up. When I got home I had to go out back and fire off a bunch of rounds out of my Colt .22 peacemaker revolver and my daughters Phoenix HP22..... Yep, I "need" a better .22 target pistol.

I know the Colt revolver is worth a decent chunk of change, but it just sucks for target shooting. Sure if I practiced a bit more with it, I could get better, but it is just a hassel to reload and will never be a tack driver like a Buckmark or Ruger would be. Sorry Higgins, but my revolvers (.44 Mag Blackhawk and aforementioned .22 Colt) are just not as fun to shoot as my semiautos. Being that I shoot pistols for mainly for "fun", I am thinking maybe I should get rid of the revolvers someday when a good opportunity arises.

Yeah, I have never been a fan of the WMR. You really don't gain much at all from the short barrel of a revolver over the .22 LR. You are right in the fact that the WMR shoots .224" bullets, where the .22 LR shoots .223" bullets. The convertible guns, however, are bored for standard .22 LR bullet diameters. The .001" oversize WMR just swages down to the smaller bore size upon firing. I bought my Single Six as a .22 LR only, with no extra cylinder.

My Single Six shoots right with my Mark II bull barrel gun, and my K-22. It's as accurate as any .22 revolver or pistol I have ever shot, short of match guns. Most of them I have shot were very accurate little revolvers. Again, single actions are difficult to shoot well, magnifying every little mistake. Ant change in grip will send a wild flyer off into no man's land, and it is very difficult to grip one consistently. They are not for everyone. Then again, once mastered, other "better" designs get a lot easier to master. They are a lot like early 911's that way...

I don't know those guys. The Brownings are very hard to find right now, so very few of them out there. Gunbroker is the best bet for locating them and there were a grand total of 2 of these models there (well, one now).

Of the online dealers, I had a great experience with Dave's Guns in WA as well as East County Guns (also in WA). The other guns I've bought local.

You really can't go wrong with either the Browning or Ruger. I own a Ruger but I'm waiting for the Browning Target to become available in CA. The 5.5 inch is on the list but apparently the 7 inch model is not.

.22s are great way to target shoot without breaking the bank. Here's a not so good photo of my gun that I took at the range. It's a Mark III 678 Target Model.

Shot a fairly new buckmark this weekend. I found I could put em right where I wanted them and I haven't shot in over a year. Nice feel in the hand and smooth as silk. My mom's uncle warned me about getting the "camper" with the round barrel though. He seems to think the Mill sided barrels are more accurate. Any truth?
