I guy in his late 80's sent me this.
"Why I Carry a Gun My old grandpa said to me, "Son, there comes a time in every man's life when he stops bustin' knuckles and starts bustin' caps and usually it's when he becomes too old to take an ass whoopin'." I don't carry a gun to kill people. I carry a gun to keep from being killed. I don't carry a gun to scare people. I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place. I don't carry a gun because I'm paranoid.. I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world. I don't carry a gun because I'm evil. I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world. I don't carry a gun because I hate the government. I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government. I don't carry a gun because I'm angry. I carry a gun so that I don't have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared. I don't carry a gun because I want to shoot someone. I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon. I don't carry a gun because I'm a cowboy. I carry a gun because, when I die and go to Heaven, I want to be a cowboy. I don't carry a gun to make me feel like a man. I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love. I don't carry a gun because I feel inadequate. I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate. I don't carry a gun because I love it. I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me. "Police Protection" is an oxymoron. Free citizens must protect themselves. Police do not protect you from crime; they usually just investigate the crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess. Personally, I carry a gun because I'm too young to die and too old to take an ass whoopin'." Perhaps since a major part of my job involves dispensing firearms I may be too close to the subject to have an objective view. I'll admit to having seen some of what Dan is referring to in his original post but it's nothing new to me, I first noticed it in the mid-70's. I don't think anyone can deny there has been a big buying surge in the last year or so, and there can't be many areas of consumer spending with similar increases in this economic situation. People are finding the money for guns & ammo, and at prices I consider way over-inflated. A buddy brought me in a Cheaper Than Dirt ad for Wolf 7.62 x 39 for $500/1000 rds. $10 a box for Wolf! Maybe I'm still rembering the days of $79/case Norinco (and free shipping for 5+). Jim

Oh, and on topic. I have a suppy of food that is "Hurricane" supplies. It gets rotated with the rest. It is mostly pasta and canned food. The intention is to survive long enough for most of the regular people to die. I also keep a year's supply of Vitamins on hand, just in case. I may increase that supply.
I may need to get serious and turn Mormon and setup and turn 1 year worth of food. 1500 calories per person per day = 2/3rds of a pound per day for 1 year = 250 lbs of pasta per person. Elbows are around $0.33/lb ---> $75 per person. However, storing 250 lbs of pasta isn't easy.

We used to live a mile from the Atlantic Ocean and, having lived through hurricanes and tropical storms, we tend to keep our home well-stocked.

as we all have been watching things take a turn for the worse thruout the world, its evident to me that when i walk into snobbsdale gun club here and the walls are empty of product.............somethangs UP! its also evident as hell that crime is going up south of us in messiko and that is rearing its ugly head every day in the news here being a border state. i shudder at the thought of living in el paso texas right now with all the crap going on in juarez. san diego is feeling the effects of all the crap in TJ!
a lil background on snobbsdale. a) its uber snooty b) i have lived here all my life and it bewilders the hell out of me how this has now become a destination location. c) snobbsdale gun club is like the biggest adult playground of guns i have EVER seen in all of my travels. if it goes bang or rat a tat tat...........they GOT IT! or did have it past tense! soooooooooooo............with dat in mind its very plain to see that the natives are restless about the state of the onion(union). hell even nostatic is is armed to the teeth now with weapons of mass destruction. so much for the peaceful surfer co-existence in l.a. county!!!! "lokals only dudes on these waves!" BLAM BLAM BLAM! LOL! after watching the clinton ban first hand and at the time getting somewhat caught behind the 8 ball as far as finances to buy up nasty evil weapons and magazines................I DECIDED IT AINT GONNA HAPPEN AGAIN! soooooooooooooo.................this time around we were ahead of the square regarding HB 45 and HB 1022. with many many years of collecting firearms, i like everyjuan had some holes to fill in my collection. so we proceeded to purchase at least 10 magazines for every platform that i own. ie. extended capacity. this was going along fairly well until we ran into a wall on mags for M1A's. since i own 2, thats 20 mags for both. not bad when times are normal but now times aint normal and prices have skyrocketed and demand is thru the roof, and supply has dried up. the magazine frenzy has extended to magazine tubes for shotguns even. .380 ammo(WTF?) is gone from ammo suppliers. .308/.223, every caliber you can think of has skyrocketed. manufacturers realize that the gettins good and prices reflect their greed. but as i have stated before.............YOU CAN ONLY FEED A FAT MAN SO MANY TACOS UNTIL HES FULL! and that is the same with guns/magazines/and ammo, with the american public. i predict around summer time that sales for firearms/magazines/ammo will finally start falling to pre-goofiness levels and prices will come down to earth. i mean hell.........how many freeking guns can you carry in a firefight during social disorder???? how many rounds can you carry?????? my sway on the times is right now if ya really shop and surf firearms its actually a good time to purchase if yer smart. why? because people who have been laid off, or company has gone under are hard up to sell firearms for what they can get. lots of guns changing hands now and i have screamed some deals over the internet for quite a few that i have always had my eye on. and some were such sweet deals that i literally ran to the post office for a usps money order and sent it overnight to seal the deal. all i can say is im damn glad i stayed on top of this and didnt get caught a second time. i highly suspect that any NFA stamp(SBR/SUPPRESSOR/FULL AUTO/DEESTRUCTIVE DEEVICE) will skyrocket thru the roof as all NFA weapons and trigger groups have and the prices to obtain these stamps will be out of reach of the normal average middle class. and dat kiddies is why i submitted my papers and fingerprints for my fave...........HKMP5-SD 9mm, semi-auto/SBR/SUPPRESSED! semi-auto because i dont need a travel permit to go from gunfriendly state to gunfriendly state like you would for a full auto version. PFFFFFFFFFFFT! X 40. |

Do whatever you want. No skin offa my nutz! You live in a near-Communist, repressive state and I can walk down Main St. @ high noon with a loaded gun on my hip (if I so desire). No problem here...

I agree with Jim that when the zombies come the laws will be outta da' window. Now I am glad I live about 5miles out of town in a very rural area. Not a whole lotta chance for a riot around here. Both A-5s are ready to go however...

I own two guns, one is a special display gun never fired that I have no ammo for. (Uncle's police commemorative gun). My regular home defense gun has the same amount of ammo as it ever had, maybe one extra (small) box plus what's in the mags. If I have to shoot more than 20 or 30 people, I'm fked.
If I lived out in a rural setting and had to protect a ranch it would be different but I live on the 6th floor of an old apt bldg. that's pretty secure, ie. only one door in/out. The realistic chances of having to shoot it out even in a full-scale riot are close to nil, and I've been through a full-scale urban riot. You would not want to be gunless in such a situation but the idea that you would be in a para-military situation in drawn-out firefights is absurd. The enemy is a bunch of broke-ass life's losers who mostly don't own guns and ammo at all. Even if there's a huge mob of them coming your way to loot/pillage/etc., you drop one with a bullet to the chest or head and the entire crowd turns on its heels and flees like a football team that's just suffered an interception on the 10 yard line. This is a fact. I've seen it numerous times in riot footage when the police open fire on a crowd and I saw it during the L.A. riots. You scared little girls would be better off investing in a bandana and a Che Guavara T-shirt that would allow a quick "switch teams" maneuver if you're overrun.

The "stockpile guns and food" thing is silly, but it is fun and stimulates the economy so what the heck.

I figure the odds of a catastrophic earthquake are higher than major civil unrest or terrorist activity around here, but I can't completely discount any of the these, so I keep things stocked-up. It's clear to me that L.A. is not equipped to handle any event that levels a large portion of the city and knocks-out power and water. I'd rather be a little paranoid than dead...
