Still a cool thing to see in person....

No one handles the "real" cup not even players. This was the cup goinig around with the players as it was part of the Bruins Foundation event that day. It had also just come back from Pittsburgh with Recchi. I've seen the real one in the Hall of Fame a few years ago.

I had lunch with the guys that bring it around, the guy from the CC commercial, and one has been carting around with it for 12 years. He's pretty much seen it all and though its not the original from the 1890's lets just say it still has lots of Patina....

Here's the explanation:

Original, authenticated, and replica versions
The original Stanley Cup in the bank vault at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, OntarioThere are actually three Stanley Cups: the original bowl, the authenticated Cup, and the replica at the Hall of Fame. The original bowl, purchased by Lord Stanley and physically awarded to the champion until 1970,[57] is now displayed in the vault room at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Ontario.[57]

The authenticated version or "Presentation Cup" was created in 1963 by Montreal silversmith Carl Petersen. NHL president Clarence Campbell felt that the original bowl was becoming too thin and fragile, and thus requested a duplicate trophy as a replacement.[58] The Presentation Cup is authenticated by the seal of the Hockey Hall of Fame on the bottom, which can be seen when winning players lift the Cup over their heads, and it is the one currently awarded to the champions of the playoffs and used for promotions.[45] This version was made in secret, and its production was only revealed three years later.[58]

The replica trophy, called the "Replica Cup", was created in 1993 by Montreal silversmith Louise St. Jacques to be used as a stand-in at the Hockey Hall of Fame whenever the Presentation Cup is not available for display.[58] There are very few differences between the authenticated version and the replica version. The surest way to identify one version from the other is to check the engraving for the 1984 Stanley Cup winning Edmonton Oilers. The authenticated version has x's engraved over Basil Pocklington's name whereas his name is completely missing from the replica version.

Of course I do... Glenn Hall, the goalie the let a goal in from a diving not so known players, Robert Gordon "Bobby" Orr.

All kidding aside, definitely the most famous and recognized hockey images of all time.

Like Potvin said; ... "no they never talked about it but it's like the music industry, there is the Beatle and everyone else... Orr is like the Beatles and then there is the rest of us"

The stat I love the most is his plus/ minus of +597, I have spoke to him at length about it and thats what he's most proud of, a true hockey legend.

What kind of dough would this guy bring in today's market?

Don't know what they'd pay Bobby today with the cap and all but no doubt he would be the highest paid player in the league. There are a few people that can't go un-noticed in Canada - Bobby's one of them.

Go over there and wait for me. I'll be right over.
I do not hate Crosby. I am sick of the god-like attention that the media is giving him.

Crosby is the poster boy of the NHL, I don't mean that in a bad way, he's well spoken, polite, who wouldn't like him, I find the league a little short sighted when it comes to players, I was really surprised they didn't try to sell scott neidermayer more, looked like a great guy, the best thing for the league is to move crosby to LA like gretz, they may get a better TV deal....hahaha who cares about the north, their going to watch anyway

Looks like I'm not the only one

Jeremy Roenick hasn’t been shy about praising Sidney Crosby. He dropped quite a few jaws last season when he shared his belief that Crosby is “way more talented” than Wayne Gretzky, although those comments were probably taken out of context in many cases.

Regardless – or maybe because of – Roenick’s high opinion of Crosby, he admitted to some serious fatigue about the roller coaster of updates regarding Sid the Kid’s health. Whether we like it or not, Crosby’s health will be an issue for a long time, but it’s hard to blame Roenick for feeling beaten down by the drama.
Video: Jeremy Roenick is tired of the Sidney Crosby roller coaster | ProHockeyTalk

VonZipper: I agree with most of your statement. When Sid the Kid came up, he had way more maturity and class than anyone I've seen even close to his age. He had mad skills and there were continuous highlight reels of his moves. Unfortunately, the media has gone too far with watching his every move. I think that all that attention finally got to him and Sid started thinking his opinion mattered more he should. Eventually he became a whiner.

Buck: Please listen: I don't hate Crosby. I think he was one of, if not the most, skilled players on the ice at that time. I am sick of the media.

As a lifelong Flyers fan and having been a kid in the 70's who worshiped the game of hockey and in particular the Flyers I have always had the utmost respect and admiration for two historical Bruins players.

Bobby Orr to me was and is HOCKEY to me. A total game changer who played on a different level then his peers of the time. As a young player in those days I would marvel at his almost effortless movement and grace with the puck. He could see the ice and the game on a different level.

This guy below was and is one of my all time favorite players. Again he could just see the game differently and as a defenseman throughout a lot of my career I marveled at his attitude and the way he played the game.

Of course for me there is only one hockey god and he was never a Philadelphia Flyer. To me he was / is the greatest player and leader ever.
