Wow, they really changed the looks of those. My stepdad is on about his 3rd or 4th Subaru wagon in a row, they're great cars. His latest is actually not ugly, think it's a Legacy wagon. Great WI./MN. cars and just really swiss army knife-ish.

Todd, if every American was like you and compulsively bought new cars and MCs every year or two, the entire economy would not be collapsing. So congrats for doing your part and setting a good example.

I've only had one brand-new car in my life, (besides company cars/demos), a 1979 RX-7. Every other car I've ever owned has been free other than maintenance. The few that I sold for less than purchase price were more than compensated by the ones that went for more. Most stayed the same, I buy smart and sell before too long. (A year or two). I do nothing for the economy other than spend as opposed to saving. So I've got that going for me.

A cheap, miled-up 993 6-speed coupe could be a great car, they are pretty bomb-proof and if it was maintained it could even be trouble-free. That would be a tempting ride.

I'm not reading that. I'm not reading that. I'm not reading that.

Maybe when my budget recovers in a year or so. But I think I'm more inclined to get a track prepped car. I'm thinking Miata with a roll bar that I can flog at Streets every so often. I would love to get another p-car but since I'm not much on DIY I know I'd be buying Dave another story on his house before too long...

Stupid thread!!!
I was all set to buy a Speed3 until I saw this post. I drove 100 miles to test drive one today. Really liked it more than the Speed3, mostly due to boxer engine, AWD, tach is in the right spot.
If I could find one for 23K I'd buy it. The dealer today had over 200 miles on the car that I drove and wouldn't go under 25K on a base model with only couple small options. It was also black and I'd prefer white.

Do a search on the subaru site and email the dealers that are anywhere near you. My local dealer had no interest in selling me a car - they didn't want to deal or even find what current incentives were available. I emailed 5 other dealers, got prices back from three of them, picked the one that had the color/spec I wanted and did the whole deal via email/phone.

All dealers are not created equal...

No kidding.... The Mazda dealer(s) near me, half didn't even reply initial queries regarding buying a Mazda...

The Subie peeps wanted to sell a car..they found the car I wanted.. cut all the fat from sticker price... and we closed a deal..

The Mazda peeps never returned a phone call or email.

Of course this all could be different when I buy another car in 5 years...

993s make great track cars without much modification. I promised myself no mods beyond what it came with from the PO. It has worked. Still going to the track, but in comfort. It is a cheaper car than the SC with the deal I made with myself.

There was another 993 for 18k early this year or late last year. That is crazy pricing - a lot of people pay that for a G50 carrera or even a nice SC.

That said, my 993 does not make a good DD. I do not like shifting the LFW/Cup clutch in traffic and I can not take it on outdoors trips where I need room for camping equipment, dead animals, 4x4 and ground clearance ...
