Still in planning mode. One hold up is the planing of the body.

Stijn!!

Tuesday may be the suck day but it ain't Monday!!!!!

Good evening to all of you. Today was just wonderful weather wise. The entire week is supposed to be great. I plan to have a great week as well.

Porsche-poor 09-05-2011 08:22 PM

Lets hope the weather holds for us all.

slodave 09-05-2011 09:32 PM

What's the hold up on the body?

Porsche-poor 09-05-2011 09:58 PM

Taking it from 1.75 down to less than 1.5. Forming a plan. Will make a few sketches to send you about the neck.

slodave 09-05-2011 10:02 PM

It's easy... Make the box I mentioned before. Put the body in the box, create sled for the router. Take measurements, set bit from measurements, turn on and go to town with gentle passes. :)

Still not sure i see how to form head stock and neck from one piece. Cut slats are 1x4x30 glue three together its 3 " wide plans say head is 85mm or just over 3". If you true up block then its probably less than 3x4 after.

slodave 09-05-2011 10:10 PM

The ears man, the ears! ;)

Porsche-poor 09-05-2011 10:11 PM

Ok so the head is not made completely from the billet.

Actually, it is... The scraps. ;)

Here is the neck "billet" after slicing...

I trust you. Going to order wood later this week. Tempted to do the three separate slats rather than a solid billet.

slodave 09-05-2011 10:18 PM

Before you order, send me the links and I'll double check. :)

Porsche-poor 09-05-2011 10:20 PM

A pm or to the email you sent the plans from?

slodave 09-05-2011 10:22 PM

PM... I don't really have email at the moment. I run my own email and web servers out of my house. Email server crashed a month ago when the power spiked. Never did finish with the new server and without Internet, it makes no difference anyway. :D

Box for body with router sled..

Very useful and cheap. Can be set for planning the top, to cutting the neck plane angle and mortise. Mortise gets cut last, as it destroys one wall of the box.

You have better things to do with your time. Like get grey hair over my questions.

Yes it was. We visited my grandparents up at Canton Lake. Spent the afternoon lounging, playing games, riding bikes, and I did a bit of snorkeling. Was a bit chilly in the water.

A very relaxing day overall. I love my hammock. Quick setup, super comfortable.

Clarification on a "one piece" neck from Gibson. The bulk of the neck and headstock are one piece.. To get the width needed for the headstock, they glued two ears on. So technically. the neck has three pieces of wood, but the ears really don't add structurally to the neck, just visual, so it's considered a one piece neck.

And they don't slice the neck into three and glue back together....

Porsche-poor 09-05-2011 10:32 PM

Night guys. I'll send those links tomorrow. Thanks.

Porsche-poor 09-05-2011 10:33 PM

I plan to slice to add strength.
