The one red 944 in good condition and wasn't trashed was at a local used car dealer and they were asking $10,000. All the others were in the $5000 range. I got them down to $8600 and walked to try to get another $600 off the price.

The salesman called as soon as I got home to let me know the red 944 I was looking at sold. There was a father and son out driving a 944 Turbo when I was there. The dad decided the 944 Turbo was too much for his son and paid the $10,000 asking price for the red 944. He urged me to come drive the 944 Turbo.

I reluctantly went to look at the white 944 Turbo S. I wasn't very interested in buying it because it was too expensive to resell quickly and it was white not red. I took it for a test drive and decided to buy it about the time the turbo hit in 2nd gear leaving the lot. When the turbo hit in 3rd I decided I would even pay the $16,000 asking price if I had to. It was the quickest car I had ever driven.

$12,000 later the white 1989 944 Turbo S was mine. Looking through the car, I found a special issue of Road and Track that featured the then new 1989 944 Turbo S. And the one in the article was white not the signature silver rose of the first 100 944 Turbo S cars. I thought that was pretty cool.

The Road and Track article talked about how the new 944 Turbo S was the killer autocross and track car so I got on the internets and found the local PCA had autocross events once a month. Confident in my driver skills I went to my first autocross.

At my first autocross I was very anxious and the adrenaline was flowing so much I couldn't stop my hands from shaking. I was amped. I didn't even mind the smell of the borrowed helmet.

My instructor was a seasoned 930 driver. On my instructed laps all he said was "You don't have to go through the exact center of every gate." And he did turn off my windscreen wipers for me a couple of times.

After the event was over my best time earned me second...from last. The only driver slower than me was a chick that kept getting lost in the course. However, the group proclaimed me the event winner because "You could see his grin even though he was wearing a full face helmet."

Yep, I was hooked and have rarely missed an event since.

Over the next 3 years I went from being basically the slowest to not only setting FTD but being the one to beat. Improvements were made to both me and the car to achieve that.

I never had any instruction besides that tip about the gates, but I did read a LOT of books.

For the first year I didn't do anything to the car. Every lap I did was faster than the last. Only after I just couldn't improve my times did I start modifying my car.

Good afternoon guys.

I finally got my new hard drive installed and working on my computer. I did have a 80 gig boot drive. Now I have 1 TB boot drive.

Just as expected it took a while.

I finally figured out I had to install the new PCI card with the 1TB drive connected but still used the old drive to boot. Windows saw the PCI card and wanted to load the driver. I installed the driver, then connected the old drive to the PCI controller card, and cloned the drive again. Without that driver loaded I would get a blue screen of death if I tried to boot from the new drive.

It is done and installed and up and running.

I spent a fair amount of time removing the new screen from an old HP laptop and the broken screen from a Toshiba, only to find that even though the plugs are the same and all else is the same they are wired different.

Actually what started the modifications on the car was that I noticed on hard acceleration the rear suspension was bottoming out. The rear torsion bar springs were shot. Instead of just putting stock bars back in I decided to upgrade the suspension.

My mechanic recommended I call Andial because their 930 suspension was a great street/track combo for the 930 Turbo cars. While everyone else was recommending the 944 Turbo Cup Car suspension, Andial recommended I go a little softer and get fully adjustable sway bars instead of the 3 hole cup car sways. Which was interesting to me because Andial had the cup car parts in stock but were recommending something they didn't have to sell.

Finding the parts made the upgrade process kind of long and drawn out. First was the rear torsion bars which was the biggest they make. And it made me faster. Next was the front and rear sway bar. The front was not adjustable but the rear was. Again faster.

Next was the progressive front springs. I had to order them from Porsche Motorsports directly and Porsche had to make another production run to fill my order. Took 3 months.

Then to be able to balance the car better I added drop links to the front sway bars to make them adjustable too.
