And they got MRE's too
entrees with meat: 1 pouch of potatoe stew with chicken (1 x 250g) 1 pouch of chicken stroganoff with rice (1 x 250g) 1 pouch of chicken curry with rice (1 x 250g) 1 pouch of noodle mushroom pot with chicken (1 x 250g) 1 pouch of chicken risotto (1 x 250g) 1 pouch of pasta with bell pepper marinara and chicken (1 x 250g) vegetarian entrees: 1 pouch of mexican bean stew (1 x 250g) 1 pouch of pasta with creamy herb sauce (1 x 250g) 1 pouch of vegetable couscous (1 x 250g) breakfast: 1 pouch of spelt cereal with chocolate flakes (1 x 250g) Content of one pouch yields approx. 1000g ready meal, thus two (amply) servings. This set of 10 pouches will provide 20 entree servings with each 500 kcal. Ideal for long term storage, as emergency supply, when travelling, sailing or camping! Not much variation though, it's chicken + something, or veggie...

Can't help it, but i like junk food and what not.
Every time i go to Au Chan, in France, i always come home with canned food for long storage(and real junkfood, tv dinners and saucages, and all sorts of stuff my doc will tell me i should stay clear off)... they have huge choice there , 5 x more then Belgium. I have a reasonable stash at home, and on days where i don't feel like leaving the house, or if i blew the budget and want to last till next paycheck.. i dig into the stash... Nothing wrong with having a half decent strategic stash of food... Think i'll order me those sample packs... it's not the cheapest stuff, but still reasonable and it's organic, and good till 2016... Nothing wrong with variation in the strategic food stash...

What you gotta do is decide how many years of food stuffs you want to keep, then rotate out the aging stuffs.

Me personally, I would not keep anything older than a year no matter what the expiration date says.

Those people are nuts. Most of the stuff they get is crap, and they are all FAT on it.

They work as much or more than if they had a full time job to get 40 to 60K of stuff.
And that doesn't take into account that they need a garage and one full room in their house to store all the stuff, and that they have to give away a lot of stuff they can't even use.

The only way I could see the couponing thing possibly working is to have a coupon co-op. Like 4 households would get together and pay 1/4th of what they would be spending on the food and household stuffs so everyone would save 75% off their normal budget and the couponer would earn a living for time spent.

Racks around here require both guns and archery equipment along with a couple of sets of antlers, otherwise you are just a poser.

That's sort of the plan Quote:
4 months ago i had a can of Target corned beef i bought in early 08, and it had expired in late 2010... Can't say there was anything wrong with it.. I hear there's are people who are going nuts with it, especially with canned anjovis and what not... they play the older better game like with wine.. but they will rotate the cans at periodic intervals to avoid the top drying up Either way, i think like the idea of a stash, it has no real disadvantages... other then the startup needs to be funded with extra food budget. But that's no biggie for me.
