Crap. Mrs. Noah just reminded me that she signed us up for little Noah's parent-teacher conference next Friday afternoon.

So a little background on why we're even going to have a booth at AdultCon:
We're here in the San Fernando Valley. The home of the adult movie industry. Only in the SFV would you have bars hosting Porn Star Karaoke nights. So one of our scrub techs has frequented these theme nights and made some friends in the adult entertainment industry. Through her friend (who's also gotten us tix to lingerie football league games, IIRC) we were able to get a booth at such a late date. Which is why we have no one to go staff the booth on Friday ('cause everyone's working). Except for me, as I usually have a light Friday (every other week, at least) and only have patients scheduled for the first half of the day. |
You know, I'd have to think that after the first hour or two, a booth at that conference would be about as boring as a booth at any other conference.

45 minutes late. but GD! was it good. i honestly don't think i have ever made food better than this. my taste-buds were freaking out. |
Makes up for the duck!
|
that duck was literally the most inedible and nastiest thing i've ever cooked. extremes of the spectrum, this week.

Whoo hoo! 53*, 30 knot winds, gusting to 41 and only supposed to get worse!
|
I am in DVI hell. I need to get two VGA monitors running off of one card. The card has VGA/DVI-D/HDMI. Should be easy... Been done a million times. Got the adapter for DVI-D to VGA.. Nothing. Monitor still dark. Research "DVI-D". Looks like it's a true digital signal. From what I have read, it can't be converted to VGA. So why do they make an adapter for it!!! And how am I going to get this second monitor hooked up? It's 7' away from the computer and replacing the cable is going to be a *****!
|
get a flat screen and hook it up. done.
|
oh, and winds are supposed to be at 70 MPH here. good times.

dave, cry me a river. i wired scores of dental offices for mainframes (no kidding). get a digital monitor, run the wire and be done with it. you've already determined that it won't work.
then again, you can't see what the wire is doing and where it goes. perhaps the wiring is fubar or their is another mistake. get a replacement cable and hook it up directly to the monitor to test. |
I can't "just get" digital monitors. I have to okay that with the Doctor and she won't be okay with that. The OR rooms have two monitors each. I just replaced 4 (at the chairs). Those monitors have DVI inputs. The smaller monitors, which I did not replace, are VGA only.
I may just have to try and replace the long cables... But - and there's a but... These cables were installed when the floors were ripped up and the some of the cabinets were not installed. Now, 8 years later, I'm not sure how I can even get the old cables out and the new ones in. HP seems to have a HDMI to VGA converter... |

i'd test the monitor and the cable to make sure you aren't just farting in the wind. IME, doctors/dentists aren't stupid. explain the situation in simple and finite terms: it won't work as it is. she will come around. a digital monitor will cost what, $170? your time to fk with it is costing how much an hour?
as for the cabling, suck it up. use the old cables to pull the new ones. crawl under there. whatever. edit: you need help, let me know. really, i've wired entire multistory buildings. in several states. |
I'd be real suspect of that 8yr old cable under the floor.....
You charge by the hour don't you? |
