Morning y'all.

With the VW bank account, Porsche's LMP1 should be pretty good. Porsche petrol-flywheel hybrid vs. Toyta petrol-battery-capacitor hybrid vs. Audi diesel and quattro hybrid should be good to watch. There are rumors Audi will pull out of LeMans after Porsche enters and then join F1 -- maybe just as an engine manufacturer at first.

I had a guy in a big pickup truck tell me so as were stopped at a red light, today. He said it with a teasing smile, though.

Sid, for how long are you in Houston? I just talked to a nurse in our OR who got back from there. She was there for 2 weeks (and unfortunately thought it was boring). Her daughter (maybe 16 or 17?) is still there shooting a movie for another 3 or 4 weeks.

Flieger 07-06-2012 01:42 PM

What movie?

Noah930 07-06-2012 01:52 PM

Some independent flick. She plays one of the main characters in this film. I have no idea what it's called or what it's about.

She's one of those who truly wants to be an actor. She's had guest roles in various main-stream, primetime TV shows, and it seems like she's always trying out for Disney/Nickelodeon pilots.

Local PCA Couple has a daughter doing the film acting thing. She has been in a couple of independents.

I was in an indie film as well.

If it was simple everybody would be doing it. Trust me I had to bust my hump to get where I am to to have attained the level I hold, but those cars are just ass. The manufacturer doesn't even have good support for the boys in the field. IE Dealer tech.
Trust me when I say this is NOT a good thing. I know Vw/Audi and am rather accomplished with them, that is why I refuse to work on them.

Porsche-poor 07-06-2012 02:38 PM

afternoon Rick. I tend to side with you about VW's. Almost everyone I see around here has a burned out tail light, same side. Makes one think there is a problem with manuf.

Rick V 07-06-2012 02:42 PM

It is impossible for me to explain just how poorly those cars are made and the crap they use to make them. You would have to wrench on them for a while then go over to a good brand to actually understand.
Okay friday and party time, I am getting ready to do some laundry

Porsche-poor 07-06-2012 02:52 PM

some party? The suds might be lacking in taste.

I bought a new Passat back in 04. VW bought it back from me 9 months later. I liked it except that it pinched the nerves in my butt to drive it. Took about 2 months for VW America Rep to do anything with the local dealer. I will say that when I was on the phone with VW America explaining my problem and mentioned I had seen a doctor about it, I got the local rep on the phone within about 10 seconds. It took them 6 months to replace the driver's seat, and when that didn't resolve the issue, buy the car back. It took so long I was planing ways to total the car so i could get something to drive that didn't hurt my butt.

Thought of...

Crash into bar ditch rolling car where lots of deer cross road. Figured something would happen that I would get pinned in the car and look "suspicious" wearing helmet.

Leave car parked in bad neighborhood and report stolen. Couldn't get anyone to follow me into the neighborhood for a ride home and afraid I wouldn't make it out on foot.

Rick V 07-06-2012 03:00 PM

Or afraid it wouldn't get stolen?

Yeah but if you overload the soap it like your own personal Lawrence Welk show. Only with head banging death metal

Noah930 07-06-2012 03:05 PM

I don't know if glad is the right word, but I'm glad that someone who actually works wrenching on cars thinks that VWs are garbage. I haven't had one, but I've had plenty of cousins and friends who have had them (in the 80's & 90's). My wife had a Jetta III when I first met her. From my limited experience, there was always something small going wrong with them. Maybe not fatal, but PITA. A door wouldn't open from inside or out. A CEL wouldn't extinguish. A starter would die, 2 months after the 3 year warranty expired. A brake caliper would stick. An interior door handle would come off in your hand. All fixable, but annoying. It was like those Revell Snap Tite plastic models you used to build as a kid. VW was/is the Snap Tite of the automotive world.
