Evening Gents,

David, I hope I never have to have that test done, in Oz we do the "post the stuff to the lab" test for bowel cancer, and if it warrants further testing, they get you in for the more "exciting stuff". Thankfully I have managed to pass the posted stuff test, and have never had to go further. Have a fair amount of bowel cancer in the family though, so it is probably on the horizon, not looking forward to it.

Still coughing and spluttering, can't wait to get a good nights sleep, and not wake up with a mouth feeling like the bottom of a cockies cage, old auzzie slang there! Jeff will understand!

Another beautiful sunny day in MD today, the young ones took me to North Beach, for lunch, lovely seaside area in the winter, although I can imagine in the summer time it is a 5hit place full of tourists and screaming kids. but atm it is lovely and quiet.

Joe, are you having a bad day or something? Did I tell you we passed the Biggest Cigar Store in the World, that's what it said anyway, on the way to Florida, didn't stop in as we were doing warp speed past it, but I did wonder if you had been there.

Time for a cuppa me thinks

I think most of this stuff is me thinking 'someday I'll have a use for it...' Only thing that fits that bill now is an old twin tube compressor. One side I can convert into a portable air storage tank. The or would work well as a t-shirt launcher.

The rest can go.

i just got back from a 'committee meeting' at work. what a fkn waste of time. we might as well be discussing "how we can more effectively avoid making changes that would improve the place." i am pretty frustrated. then, when i voice my opinion that the direction we are going with the "committee" is fundamentally flawed and that we are missing an opportunity to create some much needed FUNDAMENTAL change within the organization, everybody acts like i've attacked them personally.

i am pretty sure they are not happy with their decision to invite me onto the committee. the guy running the show was clearly frustrated and unhappy with my comments and i pointed that out to him. he didn't like that, either. then, i got to listen to three different people make pathetic arguments attempting to demonstrate that they were doing the right thing, all of them said exactly the same thing, like robots. then, the main guy said that i was being circular! LOL!

The only reason committees exist is to make people feel that they've been empowered to be part of a 'solution'. They 'make' the decisions that leadership should make but are afraid to stand behind. Thus, their own built in get out of jail free card.

Committees are fundamentally flawed.

Sorry you're dealing with that BS.

what frustrates me is that the committee was purported to discuss changes that need to be made with the organization. bluntly, there are some serious things that need addressing. instead, we are discussing minutia with patient care in one specific area.... absurd.

You know one thing I did learn from being asked to be on interminable committees was to find out early on whether or not the group had been granted the authority to implement or make change or if we were just being used as a focus group or PR function. You could pretty much figure out how much effort to put in based on the answer.

It still sucks. You see the problem, you know the problem, and can probably take (in most cases) the Occam's razor approach to problem solving and make life better. IF you we're given the authority to make and implement the fix. But nnnnoooooo.....you gotta play nice nice and show your collaborative side.

It does peak ones frustration.

see, that is exactly how they got me to agree to be on this committee: i was told, and i believe, that we do have that authority to implement changes. this is a major component of my frustration: we are squandering our effort and the opportunity we have been given in order to address a certain person's pet project.
