Well that was an interesting first day at work. They gave me a pile of tickets and I just went to it. At 3:30 I was standing around waiting for parts, the boss asked me why I wasn't bringing the next car on the list. I said my list is done except for the parts on order. He told me that list was supposed to take me until wed. Looks like a short week was my answer.
Got home and went into town to repo Devon's car from possil. That was fun, he started to bristle up but thought better of it when I just looked him in the eye and took a step in his direction.

well glad you had a productive day. So do they have good coffee at the new shop? Is it nice and clean for a mechanical shop? Organised etc

Piles of work is good, they leave me alone and I get to just do my thing. The shop is clean bright organized and the folks are very friendly.
The coffee is okay but a little thin

Car costs $250/mo to park at work and a little bit for gas. Bike is free.

I'm actually colder in the car than on the bike, because the car doesn't warm up enough for heat, in my short trip to work. On the bike, I'm only cold for the first block or two, and I'm always in an energetic mood when I ride to work, vs yawning when I step out of the car.

The car is definitely drier. But on the bike I'm not actually wet - my face and raingear are wet, the rest of me is dry. Sometime people in the elevator ask me "aren't you soaked?" and I explain to them that I could stand in the shower, with all the gear I wear. I don't believe in "breathable" rain jackets; mine is flat-out water proof.

And my legs have never looked better, tee hee.

If I had a longer commute, say 10 miles, but still on city streets or with a bike path route, I'd look into a velomobile, which is an enclosed, pedaled trike. They have electric assists now that will scoot you to 25-30 mph for a limited time, you can't ride the battery the whole way, but if there is a dicey section of road where you need to be moving faster, or for a sharp hill, the boost is there.



Unfort they are stupid expensive.

There is an invention called the CAR. It allows me to go to work dry and comfortable. In the winter it has heat. In the summer it has AC. It works great.

No doubt you are in great physical shape to do that. Wow for $250 a month to park is pricey. I park a few feet from my office door and it's free. If hail is predicted we park inside the building.
