The shop tech today picked a good soundtrack. Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, AC/DC and some other metal & rock.

Have any of you installed bearings using the hot+cold method? How hot do you need the oven and will a kitchen freezer work or is something more drastic required like dry ice or LN2? The problem I have is the hot and cold stuff is far away from the big hydraulic press...
|
Morning Y'all.
Max when I worked on Nissan we would use hot/cold for bearings in a trans. We would use a simple mini fridge for the shaft and we had a frydaddy full of Mobile1 for the bearing. Boil the bearing and just drop it onto the shaft. We would boil them in order to get an even heat. Using flame for heat is too tricky for a line tech. It takes too long |
Morning Rick. We're up a little early this AM since we're flying back East today.
We have to empty out the kitchen before we leave, since it will be gutted and remodeled while we're in DC. Just a little left to do. Work-wise and in general, this has been a very successful trip. :) |
Morning Jim, good deal on the trip. I am not going to give you the forecast, we'll let it be a surprise
|
LOL, Rick. I'll try to refrain from peeking. Here's the rundown on our work-cation:
Tore out (badly) built-in garage workbench and cabinets Painted inside of garage and reorganized it to handle 2 cars Remove remaining interior floor tile with a death grip on the concrete slab Used chipping hammer to remove thinset still clinging to the slab in 3 hallways Finalized kitchen design with our contractor, Pelican look_171 Relocated dryer vent line in the attic Removed all baseboard molding throughout house Removed all carpet tack strips throughout house Removed weeds from our "gone to seed" back yard Painted some of the underneath side of the roof overhangs Gutted master bathroom shower Replaced cracked window in roll-up garage door Put privacy film on garage door windows Made numerous trips to the dump Received the 964 garage queen and drove it a few times :) Hung out with our son and his g/f a few times Endured a couple of days of my wife's sister & her husband  Enjoyed a fun BBQ gathering at our next door neighbor's house Emptied out the kitchen so it can be remodeled I guess I can go back to my day job and get rested up. Next trip is in July. Can't wait. :D |
Looks like Lu's truck was put to good use. :D
|
Oh hell yes! :D
|
She's already told me how much she likes the truck. When we do retire, she wants to sell her Jetta and use the truck as her regular vehicle. I guess I'm stuck with driving the Porsche.
|
See you haven't figured out how to keep the little lady out of the truck. Mine gets crap millage, has no AC, manual windows and I leave the floorboard full of tools. Kinda like peeing on the tire, just marks my territory.
|
Mine has a/c, but manual doors and windows. Lu likes sitting higher up, a feeling she doesn't get in her DD or in my 964.
|
Her truck is a great little vehicle, well suited for the kind of work you guys are doing, and very well mannered

My wife hates to drive my El Camino. I have owned it since before we got married. One time she had to drive the Elky to work when one of her past cars was in the shop. The horn button connection was wonky and the horn would toot in certain positions. I was going to fix it right away but she had to drive it to work. As she pulled out of the neighborhood the Elky had a nice little toot toot just as a old man across the street was bending over. He of course turned around and gave my wife a puzzled look. My wife almost died of embarrassment.

Probably made the old fella's day. :)

At LAX waiting for a ride to DC
|
What a dreary day.
|
It was a nice sunny warm day here. 70 degrees and full sun. Little Reuben really likes this weather. He was laying on the hot concrete soaking up the sun.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1364770528.jpg I reached down to pet him had he was HOT. I think he is part lizard. We laugh at the way the end of his tail looks like it exploded. |
Dude, not cool taping fire crackers to your dogs tail! Not cool!

It has been that way since we got him! I promise.
