Bought a new phone today.....actually two. I have my moms phone on my plan and she wanted to upgrade. She got a purple razr and I caught some guy who had just upgraded to the galaxy s3 and offered him 250 for his 'old' galaxy nexus. This thing is insane.

So we covered the first two of Descartes' medetations today. So far he makes sense to me. There is a paradox in the evil demon argument in the way the teacher presented it, but if the premise is slightly revised it works, and I realize what Descartes was getting at. I am talking about how his beliefs could all be wrong because of the deceiver, yet that is not true because he does know one thing for certain -- that he exists (or rather his mind exists). So if you say "maximally deceived" instead of that all his beliefs are suspect things work out.

It seems weird at first to think that if something so crazy can be imagined to be true (the evil demon) then it opens up a tiny bit of doubt about every belief one has. But then he does say that he does not believe that the evil demon exists, and that he will continue to use his scientific knowledge so long as it appears to be the best explanation, but that he will just know that there is almost nothing known for certain. So I guess it basically just means to remember you can be wrong on almost anything so examine what you think you know and be skeptical, but carry on to the best of your ability.

I can't find any fault in the argument of the senses or argument from dreams so those sort of back-up the paradoxical evil demon scenario.

I wasn't convinced by his argument for God, though (although I wanted to be). I am not sure I understood the crucial points of it, however.

Wow, this has been all over the place. New job has been very busy and I am experiencing some challenges I am not used to working for big companies and moving to a small one.

Hmmmm... So we've established for the millionth time I am a puma and not a cougar. Personally, I don't think I am either. Both hunt. I don't. ;)

It's Rick's fault! :D

Flieger 07-19-2012 11:22 PM

Actually, that is not correct. It was Jim Richards' fault. Sorry about that Rick. :)

Flieger 07-19-2012 11:27 PM

Good night everyone.

Morning Y'all
Max for the last time if blame for anything needs to be passed we pass it to David

tweezers74 07-20-2012 04:39 AM

Woke up in the middle of the night on my couch, with all the lights on, with my scrubs still on. I guess I got home from the airport around 1045 PM and just crashed. Now I am working on my weekly report that needs to be in this morning. Ugggggg!!!

Just reading on the internet about a shooting in Aurora, CO at a showing of the Dark Knight. I was literally in that shopping center at about 6 PM grabbing dinner. Scary stuff. Now we are going to have metal detectors at movie theaters. Ten years from now, nobody is going to want to leave their houses. They are going to be like us. Connected by the outer world by forums, FB, Twitter, etc.

I need to move to Bali and teach surfing... or how to be a puma...

RKDinOKC 07-20-2012 07:15 AM

Well grease my nipples.

Rick V 07-20-2012 07:15 AM

Well I cracked one hard drive working on the second one, it's a little tougher.
Glen, I approve
Tweeze, you can't teach how to be a Puma, it's simply an age thing (oh and chasing younger guys)
If Y'all want to do Tahiti instead of Bali count me in
