close shooting for the AR I guess. There is a considerable pressure difference between the two.
I don't own any .223.

the difference is mainly in the throat of the 5.56 chamber vs. the .223 chamber. the 5.56 throat is nearly twice as long, thus .223 ammunition can be fired in a 5.56 chambered rifle, no problem.
the main problem arises with firing 5.56 ammunition in a rifle chambered for .223: 5.56 bullets are sometimes seated with a greater COL (overall lenghth) AND the .223 throat is shorter. thus, a 5.56 round could seat directly onto the rifling in a .223 chambered weapon. this is a problem because it will create a sudden, possibly catastrophic, rise in pressure when the round is fired. this problem is compounded by the fact that 5.56 cases have less volume, meaning that they, generally, have a higher pressure to begin with. so, for the AR15 chambered for 5.56, .223 ammunition is just fine. but a rifle that specifically states .223, without also being marked as 5.56 compatible, shooting 5.56 is looking for trouble.

Oh I know about the comparability or lack there of of the two rounds but a .223 in a gun chambered for 5.56 is a slower round. Unless you reload and you can make up for that but I would not want to bump up anything in a .223 casing for the reasons you stated.
Either is a fun round though.

oh, i see. well, the .223 stuff i've been reloading should go about 3000 FPS, with a VERY safe charge. i don't think it needs to go faster than that, really. that bullet weight at that speed will have a trajectory like a laser, out to 300 yards. my AR isn't scoped, i don't plan on scoping it, and torso sized silhouettes at 200 yards are no problem.
for longer work, i have the .308.

Nothing new

fatal accident, locally. check out how far that pole is embedded into the car! too bad, all around, 75yo driver, drifted off the road. it looks like a reatta, a car i kinda like....
![]() edit: from that pic, it looks like the guy crossed all the lanes of traffic to the oncoming side. amazing that no one else was hurt. i am betting it was a medical problem, given the above. the speed limit on that road is 55, IIRC, and it is two lanes in both directions with a painted median (in most places) about a lane wide.

Burp.
Dang good ice cream if I do say so myself. The 6 neighbors all liked it. The brownies and chocolate chip cookies and M&M cookies and the fresh fruit was all great. Burp. Now I need to try and stay awake and watch the F1 qualifying.
