~$450. to put this in perspective, when i started getting paid to do computer work, the 540MB hard drives had just come out and they cost as much or more than that.
i've heard some scary things about data loss with the SSD drives, though.

When I first got into computers there weren't personal computers. When I got my first computer there were no hard drives. My first hard drive was 20meg and I got it used for $800.
The worst thing about not hosting Turkey Day, is no turkey, smashed potato, dressing, cranberry sauce, and gravy sandwiches. The best thing is no KP duties.

I was one of four HS students with my own login and storage space on the school system's main frame. The interface was a iBM electric typewriter terminal with an acoustical modem link. There was no screen, it was all done with the paper on the typewriter. I got a whole 2K of storage space for my programs.
Right after I graduated my brother got one of the first Apple II computers. You used a cassette player/recorder to load and save programs. When I looked into computer classes in college I found they were using the old typewriter terminals and programming was taught on punch cards. After messing around with my brother's AppleII I decided the schools computer program was way out of date, sucked, and started saving for my own AppleII computer. My first computer was an Apple Iic. It had 128K of memory and a 5-1/4 floppy and a monochrome monitor, but could also use a color TV for the display. AND it also had a built in 900 baud modem. When using the modem you sent the characters AT to get the attention of the modem and then send commands. If you type ET instead of AT the modem would respond Phone Home instead of Ready. The programming I did with it was automating calling up BBS's and uploading my replies and downloading any new messages or new software. Also hacked and cracked the copy protection of software we found. Collected a LOT of software.

I remember using the punch cards on our mainframe which controlled the ADF's (Aust Defence Forc's) stock control system, we had just switched over from tally sheets lol

I also remember feeling absolutely stupid that I couldn't use a windows type program with a mouse, what the hell was that thing anyway, I had been just using dos based programs on the mainframe, and when I switched jobs, they gave me a computer with a mouse, I had no idea.
But it only took a hour or so to get used to it. But I did feel so stupid. Wanted to go back to dos and the mainframe.

That was all I used to use on the mainframe, and occasionally, if my computer is having a heart attack, I might use it these days, but not very much at all, have to think hard to use it these days, after all it has been 25 years.
