Replacing the stupid bumper on the disco was a royal pain. ... Every bolt was beyond frozen. ...I was using a breaker bar with 3feet of pipe attached. .... Looks pretty good though, now I just need to break down and but the front. ..

I was playing with Google maps looking at my upcoming road trip in June. One step of the instructions is:

Merge onto I-40 continue through Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and into California for 1,202 miles to Bakersfield, Ca. The total trip is over 1,500 miles and 23 hours of driving. Of course with Mrs. Carrera with me it will take even longer. She insists on nice places to stop and meals that can take 30 to 40 minutes or more.

So using an old Wisk bottle in lieu of a formal potty stop is not on her agenda, huh?

Jim Richards 02-28-2014 01:23 PM

Hahaha! Now that's how to travel!

Taxes done...now just waiting for the refund.

When we lived in Hawaii my dad had a 1958 VW bug. He got a flat and asked my brother and I to change it for him. The lug nuts had been on there a LONG time and some idiot must have put them on with an truck stop impact wrench. We actually got the front tires to come off the ground with us bouncing on a long cheater pipe. We finally gave up. We took it to a tire shop and they had a heck of a time getting them lose with their impact wrench. My dad made them remove all the lugs and use a torque wrench to tighten them properly.

No peeing in my car!

I just am not picky and I can pee on a bush in the middle of nowhere or a nasty truck stop. She is more discerning.

For food I can snarf some mass quantities of nourishment in under a minute. She prefers to eat like a civilized human. ;)

Roll up to a fast food joint's drive-thru window, get your food, and get right back on the highway. Your lap is your table. :D

I have seen a lot of rest stops in my travels. Without a doubt the fanciest high-brow Tourist information - rest stop was in California. I think it was near LA. It was a multi story glass building with marble floors and automatic lights. It was very modern and expensive looking. I thought it was cool that the photo on the wall was the Governator.

The worst hands down was also in California. Out in the desert was a state "rest stop" and it was a dirt and gravel road with a wide sopt and two port-a-potties that had not been serviced in a LONG time. It was well over 100 degrees and the flies were thick. You might guess that was a stop without the Mrs. I would have used a tree if there was a tree to be seen.

That takes too long!

I always travel with a ice chest in the car. I keep "road food" and water in there. I usually have some jerky as well. I can grab a handful of deli cuts and a cheese stick and keep on driving.

Parade always gives a goodie bag when you register. The San Diego parade gave out a small footprint cooler on wheels. It fits just fine on the floor behind the passenger seat. That cooler has been to 7 Parades and many states. Most Parades give out yet another backpack-laptop bag. I have way to many of those. I wish they would do a cooler again.

At our Parade back in 1996 we gave out a bag just perfect for my helmet. I use it to this day to keep my helmet in.

I get a glass of ice with a little soda and some jerky when I take my "fuel potty walk around refreshment clean the bugs off the windshield" stop every 200 to 300 miles depending on where the big cities come up.

Way back when I had my 90 928 GT drove from Okahoma City to St Louis in 5 hours including 2 gas food potty stops and it was 4th of July weekend traffic. Made the same time on the return trip that Sunday afternoon. Slowed me down a little bit when on an open stretch of turnpike with no car in sight as far as the eye could see in either direction my radar detector went off instant on, 165. Didn't see him but fully expected to come up on a road block or patrol or something next exit. Never saw anyone resume speed.
