Richard, Beth and I are going to be crashing your hod on the night of the second, I am already going to "howdy" with Glen and I would love to meet you as well, I hope we can manage a handshake. If not I will be returning that way later in the week.

Dr. Who, English Sci-Fi show that started in the 60's or something but in the past 10 years has been revitalized and increased in popularity. The plots are very complex and interwoven and it is hard to follow without having watched the past seasons already.

Basically, the Doctor is a time travelling alien (who looks like a human) and he has a companion (the pretty girl) who is along for the ride. Usually the companion meets the doctor seemingly by accident but then it is revealed there is a reason for the meeting (remember the time traveling stuff). They have lots of adventures and sometimes the plots touch on matters of religion or human rights and stuff like that.

Each actor who plays "the doctor" gets a season or two, then the doctor "regenerates" (he gets "killed" but as an alien he basically rises like a Phoenix in a new form rather than dying, allowing them to introduce a new actor). Each actress who plays "the companion" gets a season or two as well, then they return to their normal life on earth after having one too many close calls while travelling the vastness of time and space with the doctor.

They usually stagger the transitions so that one doctor will have had two companions, each companion will have had two doctors. Helps maintain continuity in a show that has very little otherwise, other than the retro "baddies" like the Daleks and Cybermen.

OK, so the punchline is: Who?

I am familiar with Dr. Who. I watched it back in the 70s and 80s and then the local station that carried it dropped it. There was a lot of letter writing (Analog paper letters) and phone calls. Even a petition but to no avail. The station quit showing it and there was no other resource back in the olden days of analog.

The special effects were on par with local high school stage production and it helped that it was in fuzzy low def TV broadcast. Nothing nearly as "good" as the original Star Trek special effects.

Wasn't that what Horton used to listen to?

GH85Carrera 12-24-2014 05:25 AM

Rick, Richard and I eat lunch together almost every Tuesday. I warned him of your impending visit and he was invited over to meet and greet. I am pretty sure you guys will not be wanting to stay up late and party and chat. More like: get food and shower and sleep not necessarily in that order.

Rick V 12-24-2014 05:35 AM

To be honest, shower and sleep are really more than we could ask for. We usually don't bother with hotels when we make a speed run like this because it eats too much time up.
Beth works with a chick that used to be an OTR trucker and she said 40 is the best and only route to take, it is actually faster.

GH85Carrera 12-24-2014 05:41 AM

I-40 west of here is not bad at all. I guess you will be coming down I-44 which is not too bad either. I-40 east sucks big time but you will not be on it much at all. Rt-66 runs right along side of I-44 and out west along I-40. I-44 in Oklahoma is a turnpike so have some one dollar bills handy. From Miami at the state line to Tulsa is $4.00 and it is worth it. From Tulsa to OKC is $4.00 as well. The turnpikes are well maintained and the posted speed limit is 75. Most traffic is running 5 to 10 over that. Cruising at 80 is pretty easy.

There is a short turnpike in Tulsa from the Will Rogers to the Turner and it is a few bucks as well.

RKDinOKC 12-24-2014 05:44 AM

Meeting up would be great. Yep, Glen's place is just 1/2 mile from here and any time is a good time for me. My sleep schedule not nearly as structured as Glen's or anyone else's for that matter.

We are just 2 miles from where I-44 meets up with I-35 coming from the east. If you are coming thru on 1-40 we are only 10 miles north of where I-40 meets I-35.

Rick V 12-24-2014 05:45 AM

Well to fool my gps I will have your address as my destination and once I hit Ok, I will change it to Tucson. I have figured out how to make the snarky little woman in the talking box how to do what I desire, now if I can just get beth to...............................yeah we won't go there

Rick V 12-24-2014 05:52 AM

Damn another shooting in Missouri, hold on to your hats, this could be a bumpy ride

GH85Carrera 12-24-2014 06:02 AM

I used to call my GPS Bichen Betty until this year. When I updated it she suddenly acquired an Aussie accent. Now I think of her as bossy Azzy ;)

It is really funny to hear her try to pronounce some of the street names that were in Monterey and New Mexico or some of the Indian names from around here.

Rick V 12-24-2014 06:10 AM

When I updated mine a couple of months ago it offered me a few new voices so I chose the sexiest one offered, and when you complete a maneuver she almost has a condescending way of saying good boy, there is an upturned inflection to her voice as if to say I knew you could do it. She is a rude one

GH85Carrera 12-24-2014 06:17 AM

I really laughed out loud at my GPS when I was pulling over to get gas. She was kept telling me to turn this way or that way to get me back on the highway and I was focused on a truck stop with a bathroom and gas pumps. I kept ignoring her and as I pulled into one side street with an exasperated tone she said "IMPOSSIBLE" I told her to shut the Fu** up and turned the car off and went to take care of business. It was really funny at the time.

RKDinOKC 12-24-2014 06:18 AM

Saw the lady that did the original Southwestern Bell phone system recordings, she didn't look anything like her voice suggested.

RKDinOKC 12-24-2014 06:28 AM

Don't understnd why the GPS units don't have an easier to use system for making stops along the route. Exspecially for normal travel things like gas, food, and lodging. There ought to be a bathroom button!

GH85Carrera 12-24-2014 06:55 AM

Yep, there needs to be a button right on the face that bring up a simple list. State owned rest stop ahead or gas stations within 1/2 mile of the highway, food with 1/2 mile of the highway. The biggest thing they need is a filter for any and all exits that is "KEEP ME OUT OF THE GHETTO!!!" When I was going through St. Louis I followed a few nice looking cars off of the highway and pulled into a gas station. I was stunned how I was suddenly in a different world. I decided I did not really need to pee after all and of course the on-ramp to the interstate was a mile away through more ghetto.

Rick we do have a heated tile floor in the guest bathroom but we don't have the cool water fountain like this place.

Rick V 12-24-2014 07:08 AM

I would like a "Time to unsnap the holster" alert on mine.
When I was in Columbus a couple of months ago I had a few choice conversations with my GPS.
