Woohoo Dave, looks good. Metal turning is something I've never had a go at.

It's challenging. Especially since I don't have a chuck suitable for holding metal and only one tool that I've adapted. My lathe comes from Australia. A Stubby... Meant for turning very large wood bowls and platters.

Morning Rick

I've been enjoying a nice evening out with my bride.

We've had a bucket of rain - the meter now reads 44.2mm.

It is good to see you get some rain. We would love some regular normal average rain. About 12 inches of rain in a week would be great. Not gonna happen anytime soon.

Good morning folks. Good evening Jeff.

Careful with that lathe Dave.......looks scary. Keep your eye out for a 3 in 1 Smithy or similar on CL if you're planning on doing a lot of them. The one I have is kind of wimpy in the milling dept. but the lathe part works good.

G'day Glen

I'm half expecting to see a river in flow by the morning, so far tonight we've had 16% of our annual rainfall.

Not sure why the metal guys think this is so dangerous? There is wood harder than aluminum and it can be turned in the same fashion. This really isn't difficult, just slower and more muscle behind it.

Morning Jeff.

I've only burned 40 gals. of oil so far this winter.......the wood pile however is dwindling rapidly.

I have often thought about getting a stove insert for my fireplace but it isn't in a great place for heating much more then the den and I really love my fireplace. The smoke shelf is in the room and all brick with exchangers built into it. It is actually functional so far as a fireplace goes.

Phew.

The wind is blowing like a windy winter day. It is straight out of the north and my office building faces north. The wind hits the building and it is blowing the outside glass door to the foyer open. That would not be real problem except the inside glass door to the foyer had broken latch and the wind is strong enough to blow that door open enough to make the entry door bell sound off. We can't see the front door from our production area so we rely on the door bell to tell us someone came in.

I could close the huge heavy steel front door but everyone would think we are closed. I was forced to do building maintenance. I had to take apart the latch mechanism for the glass door to figure out why the latch was not working. It was a tough 4 minutes of work to take it apart and lube it up. I bet that mechanism is the same one from the 1980s when the building was put up. It is all fixed and I don't have to listen to the constant ding dong of the door blowing open. The heat loss alone will be worth the time to fix it.

At least the price of oil is a lot better than last year. How much is heating oil right now?

I know I sure love natural gas heat. I never worry about running out and it is clean and reliable.

We've decided to put a combustion insert into our fireplace this autumn.

Back in my single days I was a pyromaniac and loved my fireplace. Then I got married and Mrs Carrera does not like the cleanup of ashes or the smell of a fireplace after a fire. We have a gas fireplace that I have not lit since the last power outage 5 or 6 years ago.

I leave the door to the garage ever so often especially in the fall so the cat can go out there and either scare the mouses off of get scared off by the mouses. Preferably the former.
