Get off my lawn!

AGGHHHHHH
I fcuking hate computers. Insert LONG string of profanity of your choice. I have been fighting with my system all week. I finally have the system dual booting like I want, will almost. I can boot into my old home system with the mirrored drives as boot drive and have all my old programs or re-boot and use the SSD that has the minimum installation of Windows. It has the one main program I wanted to make work and an antivirus program and Firefox so I can use the internet. It is screaming fast and pegs out the Windows Experience rating at 7.8 with the top rating possible of a 7.9. The only goofy (long string of cussing) thing is I can't get it to boot with just one monitor. It makes no sense. I had to borrow a little 24 inch monitor from work and hook in the digital video connection to get a boot screen. The system boots with the little screen and after it boots it goes off and my main 29 inch 4K monitor takes over and the little monitor goes off. I can use both monitors if I want to but my home desk does not really have room for the second monitor. I am stumped. The twin GTX 980 cards are fast for sure.

Thanks for the condolences. Going to be a lot different around here since I've been taking care of her for the last 15 years. Sure hope they let me keep working from home.

Richard, Sidney told me the news. So sorry. My heart goes out to you. You took good care of her. One day at a time. It's going to be an adjustment for you. Hugs!

I've helped to or taken care of a close family member in varying degrees since I got out of college.
When I first got out of college I moved back home to help my Mom take care of my Dad. He had diabetes, chrones, and several other complications due to diabetes. The day my Dad passed my Brother 13 years older than me had a major MS attack. The first 1 year or so I just took care of Mom's house while she constantly went back and forth from OKC to Atalanta to help with my brother. Then Brother's 2nd ex gave him his 13 yo troubled teen. Because of MS Brother could not handle the stress of a troubled teen, so Mom and I took legal custody of Jarret from juvy. Turned the 13 yo making Cs and Ds into a model A student in one semester. Since he turned into such a good kid he went back to his mom when he turned 16. So that was 3 years of raising someone else's teenager. Within of a couple of Months of teen going back to his Mom, MS brothers current wife (not Jarret's mom) divorced him because he was not the man she married. So Mom and I moved him in with us. At that time he got around with one of those 3 wheeled carts. Traded my Jeep Cherokee for a Ford Astro so we could haul him and his cart around. After a couple of years sold Moms house and used that for a small downpayment on a handicap accessible home. His MS slowly got worse. It was a little easier after he bumped into an old HS girlfriend at his reunion, she followed him home, moved in, and helped take care of him. Thank God for codependents. Then in 2000 Mom came down with breast cancer. My brother Tom thought Mom had no business taking care of George so he fixed up and convinced George and his girlfriend to move into her trailer before Mom got back home from spending a short recovery time with her sister after the mastectomy. Went for a couple of years without really taking care of anyone, then in 2003 Mom had a stroke, recovered, then another 6 months later. I changed her doctors after I read the number one side effect of the drug was stroke. Didn't get her off those post cancer drugs soon enough and she slowly slipped down that post stroke dementia slide (it's just like alzheimer's). If you know someone that get breast cancer, don't let them take Tamoxafin. Or if they recommend a post operatory drug, READ THE WARNINGS AND SIDE EFFECTS. Mom would much rather had the cancer come back and kill her instead of fading away into strokes and dementia.

D, I just assumed that the card in the PCIE slot one was the number one card. That is the furthest away from the PS. Each card has one of the older style digital video (DVI) connectors with a lot of pins, one HDMI and 3 of the new style display port connectors. I can have 10 monitors if I had space. One of those must be the "master" but my monitor only has HDMI and display port inputs.

Good Morning.
I know I am one of those weirdo Mac geeks and therefore not a real computer user, but...if you only have one monitor, why two video cards?

Two video cards puts 4 GPUs (graphics processors) in the system. That allows it to render the image a lot faster. I have room to add one more graphic card in the system.
You should see this computer. It is a BEAST. It is a i7 CPU with 8 cores. Right now it has one cooling fan on the power supply of course and one on the CPU. There are two fans on the front of the system sucking in air, one on top pulling in air two on the back expelling air. Each video card has two fans and one on the motherboard itself that circulates air over the motherboard components. All powered by a 850 watt power supply. I am going to get a much bigger UPS this weekend.

Simple arithmetic proves to me that somehow tomorrow is my 23rd wedding anniversary.
![]() Since I am only 12 or 13 it is just a total mystery. Maybe mental age has nothing to do with it. Naaa, I ain't gonna grow up.

I was never good at math. When people ask how old I am I give them my birth year and let them figure it out. There are days my wife accuses our 5 year old of being just like me and I just say it is a boy thing. We grow old, we sometimes mature but we never "grow up".
Glen congrats on your 23rd. Rick, when Car and Drive did a review of the Oshkosh Phoenix fire truck years ago that had a window in the floor to be able to see the fish when you are fording and more importantly after you crest the 60* hill you can see whats on the top and the other side I always thought they would make a great RV other than the fuel mileage. They are made for airport emergencies and are pretty decent off road. It would be a bear changing tires though.

Monty Python's Flying Circus skit asking some children if they could identify a tree from a long way off.
"Bottom" - Jeffrey Ayers, 4 years old. That skit reminded me the girl next door and I used to moon cars driving by when I was 4. So I tell people that ask my age, I'm 4.
