Happy second Monday, y'all. SmileWavy
I swam into work today. It looks like we're in for rain through tomorrow morning. I sure wish I could redirect this to CA. |

I guess this was taking place over near Jeff's place

Heck I do that every day coming to work in my El Camino. 35 MPH is no big deal. 350 KPH is a bit different. 217.4799 MPH is some real speed.

morning all. I should not have had a vacation. second day back and two are down sick. off to go slave for the day

Morning all,
Jeff's place has been invaded by pi55heads and looks like this at the moment http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1429024150.jpg And I'm leaving it till the morning. Our drunken friends have gone home and it's time for copious amounts of water coz the missus has told me to pi55 off. |

In my 911 on the track at Charlotte Super-speedway I was deep into the triple digits. That is the fastest I have ever driven. The engine noise and wind noise was LOUD. I can't imagine the wind noise at 217 MPH. Of course that 918 is likely to have a bit better less wind noise than my 30 year old 911. ;)

Rick, so something like the engine in Lone Wolf McQuade's Ramcharger, but not fictional? I can see cast iron for some cases but there are better choices flow wise in aluminium. I also remember the cross ram intakes had freeze plugs in them to pop off in case of a back fire.
Doing some tire shopping for the Cobra. I should sell both the Cobra and 911 and get a Viper so I can get cheaper tires. |
16 mile north of town (16 mile creek) are some tight esess and there are some real boney sections of road all along that section. I'm betting the 350 came real quick and they faded off for a while before putting the foot down again.
There are a few sections where you'd be comfortable with those sort of speeds for a short term but you wouldn't do it for long. There are not many spots where you get a good clear run where the verge is wide and the vegetation is cut back a long way to give you the confidence of stopping if something (a kangaroo or eagle) popped up unexpected (let alone cattle, a donkey or a camel). The first section leaving town is probably one of the best opportunities to do this speed. It's the section I had the 944 sitting on 200 for 20 miniutes (mind you, I was scared 5hitless while doing it - waiting for something to pop out at me). |
I have only been to 150 in the Cobra. I have been to 180kts flying an airplane though which is still slower than that car. I wish they had the music off so we could hear Jeff's better half.
