When I was off work recuperating from my hip replacement I was watching some action move and for some reason there were lots of things blowing up I had the volume cranked up to moderate loud. My wife came home about then and made me turn it down. :(

I can't imagine anyone has a home system like an Imax sound system. It is a large room with crazy numbers of large speakers. It is like comparing a 60 inch HD TV to that several story tall giant iMax screen. No valid comparison except they are both in color.

Coworker has a sound system with what he calls bass shakers. they are mounted to the under side of the couch. really funny to watch people jump when the couch moves. Once he played the Apollo 13 lift off scene when it was over one of the ladies said his girl friend didn't need him she just needed that movie on high.

For the full effect you have to have the volume moderate to loud.

Porsche-poor 05-18-2015 02:04 PM

I don't think she was concerned about volume she wanted it on a loop......

One more day and the job will be done.

Of course, I COULD get more work done if my FIL wouldn't have to call me to the barn to show me his new to him toys.;)

He bought a Whites metal detector from guy that is downsizing to a smaller house. The receipt for over $1200 was in the carrying case and it is literally brand new. My FIL paid $50!!!

We also got the 85 T/A running good with fresh gas. He will make back his $$$ several times over on this one.

He just has a knack for smelling deals and has a sense about sellers that he can get them to take much less than they are asking for an item. He has the money to play with too which helps.

time to get super started.

well, done with yard work for today...off to smash people at Krav Maga.

I've got a ton more yard work....I'm ripping a bunch of bushes out....on the bright side, I think I'm going to have to rent a woodchipper.....those things are friggin awesome.

Evening Y'all,
Man it was 90 today humidity in the upper 60's, ahhhhhhhhhhhh I don't hurt.
Our theater at home boasts a rather decent sound system. I have a Yamaha head unit, that is running 250 watts per channel except for the center one that is only fifty, I have a 12 inch 500 watt Cambridge soundworks sub and four NHT flat towers with rear facing mids and tweeters.
Action movies rawk in my place, My den is also hardwood and real knotty pine so the sound reflection is warm and natural.

People cringe when I crank up my chipper. I always start out being civil and following the rules like I am supposed to but by the end I am feeding this thing telephone poles and any other thing I think might be cool to chomp up. I call it getting in touch with my inner Tim the Toolman Taylor.

How does stuff like this happen?

On my way home in rush hour traffic on the highway. I'm in the slowest lane. I'm following the black Civic Si in front of me by a good 4 car lengths. In my mirror I can see a white BMW bombing down the adjacent onramp acceleration lane. Either she's going straight (offramp) or she's going to pull one of those last second merges to get by 10 vehicles.

I don't care--it's rush hour. We're all trolling along at 15-20 mph. In fact, my car's in neutral and the clutch isn't depressed--I'm just rolling via momentum.

So just as the Bimmer (white 320i, CA plate 7ERJ169, with sparkly bedazzled license plate frame) passes through my blindspot, the lady slows down, gets about 1/2 a carlength on me so that I'm looking at her C-pillar, and then proceeds to merge INTO me! (No signal, BTW.) WTF? Obviously I lay on the horn and brake to avoid the imminent collision. With a 4 car length gap to shoot for, she shoots for me?! How do you not know a car is there when you're the one who's making the pass and haven't cleared said car?!

Coulda used Rick's chipper at my house today. There's a 60-ft sycamore that's dying, and before it falls on the neighbor's house or car, I figured it was better to ante up and call a tree service to euthanize the tree. Also a pair of robust loquat trees alongside the garage door. I don't eat the fruit, and it makes a ridiculous mess of the driveway. Plus feeds the squirrels, rats, raccoons, and fruitflies. They're all coming down today.

Well, I don't have a sub-woofer, but don't need it as my left and right surround speakers each have 10in drivers that can pump out the base.

The speakers were made to handle the full spectrum and force of the lower frequencies before sub woofers came out. They are dbx 150s. They are weird shaped and designed to pump the same volume no matter where in the room you are standing. You can put stereo out to them, sit 1 ft in front of a speaker and still get a stereo image with the center content coming from inbetween the two speakers. For a long time I had a Pioneer Receiver that had a setting for no center channel and you couldn't tell there wasn't a center speaker.

My rear speakers are Boston Acoustics rear surround speakers that hang from the ceiling and bounce the sound down the walls. The Pioneer speaker setup thing classified them as large speakers because they produce the lows of a sub woofer. Again I got them before their was such a thing as a sub woofer. You have to get right under one to mess up the image and hear that speaker over the others. In fact, most times, I have to really listen to tell if it is working.

My current surround decoder and amp is a Sony Reciever. It actually does better than the Pioneer Elite I had. If I could have found just a surround decoder with amps to drive speakers instead of a reciever I would have gotten it instead. The only controls used on the receiver is on/off and volume. The TV and the Receiver are both Sony so they talk to each other and share the same remote.

She was probably yaking on the phone and had no concept of where she was, how fast she was going, or how slow the other traffic was going, and obviosly in a bigger hurry than anyone else on the road.
