Got fired once, but was re-hired a week later. Was let go by one of the co-owners. The other owners bought him out and hired me back.

I have never been fired. I have only worked at 4 places for a paycheck so just 4 jobs since 1971. Since 1971 I have only been without a paycheck for 4 business days. When I moved to Oklahoma it was the 4th of July week so just 4 days between jobs. Then when I changed jobs the next time it was the first of the year and the new place was closed on the 1st of January.

Think the guy fired me to get back at the other owners. I put in the awesome stereo system and my cassettes were the background music. My meat nachos and club sandwich were added to the menu. Was the only cook that ever got tipped. Didn't do anything to get let go for.
I would fix myself something to eat on my break and go sit in the back to eat. The waitresses would come talk to me and eat off my plate. When someone asked for something really good, the waitresses would recommend and have me fix some of the stuff i had fixed for myself. The Nachos and Club sandwich were ordered so often they were added to the menu.

Been laid off a couple of times but never fired.
I walked away from a perfectly acceptable job last time. Had I stayed, I probably would be making more $$ than I ever had, given the usual bonuses and salary increases. ![]() Speaking of food, I crockpot'd some country ribs yesterday that were incredible. I even surprised myself at how good they were. 10 hours on low and then 10 minutes in the oven at 450.

I got laid off once. Spent the spring fishing with my daughter since I had weekdays free. Probably the least stressful part of my life. Didn't last long though as I got hired at my current place of employ.
The weather is nicer. Sunny and when you spit it doesn't bounce on the sidewalk. Joe, how's the red tape jungle going?

Never been fired. Only have really quit two jobs. One was because I was no longer interested in going to pharmacy school so working in a pharmacy was a bit pointless. Other was my last job. Pay was decent for a recent grad and the benefits were great but it was clear that I had peaked. There was no chance of moving up or getting a raise in the next 10 years. Decided why pull my hair out for years and then have to start over at a new company so I jumped, been doing RE for a year now. It has it's ups and downs, would help if I knew about 1000 more people out here! Have an interview tomorrow for what sounds like a pretty good opportunity for another position with salary and benefits plus the chance for a nice bonus every year. We shall see... Fingers crossed!

Sid, I guess you had your first job in the sign business from an early age. Likely you had to work for room and board only for a while!

I invested in some oranges. Dang they are good but I can't see buying too many oranges at that price.

I don't know, hanging off of a sign just feet from the interstate traffic in 105 degree heat just sounds so appealing.
At the job I had the longest we had a complete professional photo lab. All the good toys, Hasslebald, Sinar 8x10 and 4x5 cameras, enlargers that were on rail road tracks and tons of lighting equipment and a studio. I knew for a fact that many people were stuck in traffic commuting home to go work in their little home darkroom and lots of them would just LOVE to come hang out and learn how we do things. We did for a living what a LOT of folks do as a hobby. It was still a job and just a paycheck. It was really cool to see a finished piece someplace like a museum where it was admired, but it was work.

Did a lot of prints in the company presidents basement darkroom. All of the company product photos were done in his den and process/printed in his basement. He customized his setup. For big prints he had an add on for the enlarger and a trap door in the bottom of a light sealed closet upstairs. Even though he had LOTS of money he was about doing things as affordably as possible.
Remember one night the sink faucet in the darkroom was leaking. We spent and hour finding some gasket material and making a new seal for it. Think we could have gotten a new one at the hardware store for not more than 25¢ in less than 30 minutes round trip and $1.00 worth of gas. In his mind we saved money because we used what he had on hand. Only got to use Glen's photo print services a couple of times because the pres wanted to do it himself. We even built our own processor for large poster sized prints. Then about a year later got a high quaility large format inkjet that pretty much made the large photo prints too expensive.
