It was miserable picking it too. Had to wear long sleeve shirts and gloves and it still sometimes got itchy.
Don't know why but it seemed to be the only thing I could grow that people and the grocery store would buy all I could grow. The grocery store manager was always excited to see me coming with my bags of fresh picked okra. Picked the pods when they were from 3 to 4 inches long, young and tender. And had to pick every other day. Usually got between a half bushel and a bushel. Thats a LOT of freakin okra. My Mom did a great job of rolling it in corn meal and frying it in bacon grease until it was really crisp and there wasn't any slimey left. But I still didn't like it. |
Looks like I'm making homemade ice cream for the 4th festivities Monday.
Making 3-1/2 gallons! Last year I made 4-1/2 and it was a gallon too much. While I'm making ice cream one of my nephews and his kids are making the fireworks display. They make the fireworks and pack them in those big tubes like the professions do. They even have a sequencer to fire them all off to music they put together and play over loud speakers. Usually lasts about 30 minutes. My brother pays for all the supplies. He said last year cost $750. |
Phew. Long day cleaning the 911 and doing an oil change.
The paint is clean. Top and bottom all the Grand Prix White paint is clean. Next is the rubber parts and then the interior. Okra is great deep fried. Any other way it sucks. |
After a full day in the garage cleaning the 911s paint Mrs Carrera has decreed tomorrow we clean the aquarium. And we are going to a movie. Of course we have to get the F1 race watched.
|
So...if cleaning the aquarium are you going to see "Finding Dory" to keep the day's theme going?
|
Evening all, Happy Fourth of July to y'all.
Have a great party. |
Thanks Azzy. I just put out our flag.
Sitting down to watch the F1 race. |
Welp. got 3 freezers of ice cream juice prepped up and in the fridge chilin to throw in the machines tomorrow. Made it all French Vanilla (cooked ice cream using egg yolks) and vanilla beans. Sure tastes really good now and it ain't even frozen yet. Supposed to be 3-1/2 gallons once the freezers stop crankin.
used a gallon of milk, 2 gallons of heavy cream, 5 dozen egg yolks, 8 cups of sugar, and 9 vanilla beans. |
Happy 3rd of July, y'all. We went bombing around our little burg with the 964 garage queen. Out for Mexican food tonight. Mmmmm. :) Tomorrow night, we'll watch fireworks from our back yard. Happy B-day, America!

Happy 4th!
We spent yesterday at my sister's for a picnic. Brought home 2 of my nieces to stay with us for a few days. I don't like asparagus but my other BIL wrapped it in bacon, grilled it and made it awesome! We are having my in-laws over today for a cookout. Have a great holiday. |
Happy 4th all.
Today I finish cleaning the 911. Clean the interior, treat the exterior rubber and put it away after a short drive to get the oil hot. |
Mornin' y'all. SmileWavy

Wow!

Fireworks displayed nightly BY THE UNIVERSE!

Happy merry independence day Stijners.
Today is my last Saturday of a week of Saturdays. It has been beautiful weather, mid 70s and sunny and one short thunderstorm. Mmmmmm, deep fried okra. No wait, the mmmmmmm is for deep fried cheese curds, I don't like okra either. My mother in law loves it though. |
No okra, no spinach, no liver and onions, and honestly don't like cornbread and beans.
|
Ut oh, used too much cream and too many egg yolks. My batch of homemade ice cream is smoother than what you can get at the stores, including soft serve. Sure tastes good though.
