My commute will be about the same. I go the opposite way of most traffic so it isn't bad. If I were going west I wouldn't be out of town in the same time it takes for me to get home.

What's a commute? Is 1 mile a commute or a hop skip and a jump?

Jim Richards 09-02-2016 02:44 PM

Lots of boat, kayak, and SUP traffic in the harbor today. What a #&@>!*% commute! :D

I did catch some flack for my "farmer tan." Hey, what can I say...if I kept my shirt off all the time, I couldn't keep the women off of me!

I am on a train wearing a wool suit. Following a slow freight for the last couple hours.

fintstone 09-02-2016 02:59 PM

Sure wish I had skipped the large drink right before boarding.

Porsche-poor 09-02-2016 02:59 PM

well at least we are keeping you company.

Jim Richards 09-02-2016 03:00 PM

I vaguely remember those days, fint. My condolences! It's sunny, not too windy, and in the mid-70s. Perfect kayaking weather. Come on out here!

Jim Richards 09-02-2016 03:01 PM

David, I hope you get some seat time in your targa this weekend. SmileWavy

Porsche-poor 09-02-2016 03:15 PM

I'll dodge a few drops if needed and do just that!

Yuck. What a horrible thing. A wool suit should be illegal if it is not winter and the wearer is not in from of a judge in court.

I am dreading the end of summer and no more shorts at work. Having to get dressed up in jeans all winter sucks.

Par tayeee!!

Stijn!!

We had a nice earthquake this morning. I did not feel it at all but it was loud. It was a long rumble like a loud clap of thunder for 20 seconds. I was in the shower. No damage at all here. It was a 5.6.

Jim Richards 09-03-2016 07:59 AM

I didn't feel a thing. ;)

I'm glad you're not adversely impacted by the temblor, Glen. Same goes for Richard.

Yesterday I was carrying 3 large laptops, two cell phones, my lunch and some books in a large backpack...so I had about 50 extra pounds to lug. Several miles and dozens of fights of stairs in the heat really wears me out at my age.

If I could work in shorts, or even rated a decent office (getting rid of them to save money...just have to find a table to plop down out), I would likely postpone retirement, but currently, the only tolerable day is when I am allowed to telework...as I can wear comfortable clothes, eat decent food, use a clean bathroom and have a comfortable desk/office (even though I have to finance all myself).

Too bad, because I like my work and the people I work with (most of them)...and am pretty good at it. I currently do a job designed for 4 employees.

Seems like that is happening a lot lately. Glad you are ok.

The people that come up with some of these office space / work environment concepts should be caned.

I agree. It originates at the GSA and I work in a government building. Unfortunately, most in DC are going this way. Most of the folks I work with (my customers) have nice offices, conference rooms, etc...so I have to go to them to meet. If they come to me, we have to got to an old cafeteria. It is pretty embarrassing and certainly not efficient. Especially when you have to discuss issues that require some degree of privacy.

Most new remodeling eliminates offices altogether and only provide enough "touch down" spots (chair and a small portion of a table space) for about 25-30 percent of employees...assuming that on any given day, that is all that will be in the office due to meetings, telework, etc. There is no privacy and you cannot think due to folks on both sides of you talking to each other and on the phone. Anything you need to do your work has to be carried in and out with you.

Good Morning. Yep, Morning, 11:17am here.

Slept real good, didn't even notice the 5.6 earthquake everyone is freaking out about.
Friend posted a picture of all the damage at his house on FB. Says he is going to rebuild. It knocked over a chair on his patio.

Have to admit didn't check internet until after cookin and eatin brunch. So didn't know there was an earthquake until saw everyone's posting on FB. Friends as far away as Dallas felt it.

Made Sloppy Joe's with grilled hamburger for brunch. Sloppe Joe's and Cheetos, and it was good. And yes, it was sloppy and despite my natural urges I didn't eat it with a fork! My Mom didn't ever make Sloppy Joe's. Was depraved as a child. They always remind me of my first Sloppy Joe experience. Had dinner at a girlfriend's house in HS. Her Mom used biscuit pans and made little deep dish pies with dinner roll crust, sloppy joe filling and cheese on top. Yum.
