Oh Haha 09-12-2016 06:14 AM

Hope the fix works for you Glen.

The dude with the Caddy called me today and said the CEL is on again but it's now a smog code. Did a bit of research and it sounds like it's because he removed the converter. A trick I found is to install spark plug anti-foulers into the O2 bung and then reinstall the sensor. It moves the sensor tip further away from the exhaust flow so the computer thinks everything is cool.

On my 94 Z28 I gutted the converter but it didn't throw codes because it was the OBD 1 system.

I don't know if he will want to do that but it seems like a pretty easy fix. I might take the car to my FIL's barn and use the lift instead of laying on my back in my garage.

Happy Monday kiddies!

Morning all. Mine had a high idle till I replaced the decel valve. It was either that or a golf tee in the line. I went with oem parts to fix the problem.

David, a SC is a different fuel injection system entirely.

I am finding that the cruise control Bowden cable is just no longer available. I guess the hunt is on for a used one. Oh Joy.

One cool thing about Mercedes is they have a commitment to have parts for all the cars. They may not be cheap, but they are available. Porsche said they would do that as well back in the 1980s, but they changed their minds about it later.

Good Morning, Yawn

Couldn't sleep last night, must have gotten too much sleep last weekend or maybe it's an after effect of the smoker grill. Still feel like I need a couple more hours though. Didn't wake up soon enough to put my trash out to the curb before the trucks come by. Good thing I don't generate much.

Feels kinda weird taking the box the smoker came in with all the styrofoam to the Good Will center, but they recycle the styrofoam and cardboard. The city recycling doesn't take styrofoam.

There is a 928 parts guy in Dallas. When parts go NLA he does great at finding replacements that work well. However, from what I've seen, the NLA parts come back after they get a few orders and make another production run. Usually for more money, but they do come back. Went thru that looking for some 180-410 progressive front springs for my 944 Turbo S. Everyone said they were NLA and I couldn't get them. Kept calling around to see if anyone had a set in stock somewhere. Finally ended up calling Porsche Motorsports and they ordered them anyway. Two months later they called me and they were in, Porsche had made another production run. Everyone else wouldn't even try to order them because they were listed NLA.

This is the Bowden cable I need. Part number 911-617-124-04. I can't find one at all so far. I am sure a used one is out there somewhere.

Richard, I had a beagle growing up and he never had a problem getting into any car. One time he ran out in front of a car and the car stopped to see if he was ok and when they opened the door he jumped in with them.

My sister was visiting over the weekend and she left her golden retriever at our house for a bit to play with our dogs. We got some treats out and they all sat in a row with her golden in the middle. I started on the outside and told our lab to shake and he thought since she was getting a treat he would do his tricks to get a treat. The first thing he did was roll over, right into the lab nearly rolling over her. Boy did she give him a look. Richard, hers talks also. Mostly says "I want some".

RKDinOKC 09-12-2016 08:46 AM

She gets in the car now.

So far she says..

Good Morning
Hello
I want it
Another one
I want out

Porsche-poor 09-12-2016 10:23 AM

yawn! I hate Mondays.

flipper35 09-12-2016 11:41 AM

Yeah, but it saves Tuesday from getting the hate.

GH85Carrera 09-12-2016 02:02 PM

Well......

Just maybe that same cable is available from Mercedes. They uses the exact same CC computer and vacuum module. Now if I can make the cable fit it will be great. They are available for under 20 bucks. That is too cheap to be the right solution. I just know if a Mercedes part will fit it is from the S class and will be 200 bucks but NLA as well.

Porsche-poor 09-12-2016 02:38 PM

can you get that lucky!

RKDinOKC 09-12-2016 02:41 PM

Have you called someone in with access to dealer parts, sometimes items are listed NLA and are superseded by another part. Noticed there was a complete cruise control parts on ebay with that cable number and the cruise control unit had a 928 part number. All the parts together were $425 and said they had 12.

RKDinOKC 09-12-2016 05:39 PM

Oh. My. Goodness.

Know it was just a hamburger, But Holey Moley!

Didn't put any chips or charcoal in the smoker box, just used it as a plain ol gas grill.

The burger sizzled and smoked in it's own juices with no flare ups.
Nice and charred on the outside with black grill marks, but not too crisp or crunchy.
Nice gradient from gray to pink in the middle, medium well just like I like it.
And juicey, it was so juicy and the flavor was an excellent grilled meat flavor.
Reminded me of the old Charbroil grill that had a layer of lava rock the juices dripped on and smoked to flavor the meat. Except with the lava rocks you had to keep a water sprayer handy to kill the flare ups.

Delicious Burger!

This thing was well worth the money just for the grill part. Wonder what I should try next?

My cruise control computer controller has a 928 number. That part is identical to yours in the 928. It is the cable that is different.

Seems you should look for the control unit, find one with the cable...and sell the unit if you don't need it. Is this the one?

PORSCHE CRUISE CONTROL UNIT 911.617.123.02

Porsche 911 Cruise Control Servo Cable 91161712302 | eBay

GH85Carrera 09-13-2016 05:16 AM

I did ask Pelican to contact the distributor for the Porsche parts. They were told they are NLA, as some other sources. They are proud out those used units. The top one has some expensive shipping. I have found one complete CC system for under $500. I may buy that and sell the other parts.

Good no longer Monday morning folks.

On the home front......

Our neighborhood is a small one. Just two short streets connected at one end like a horseshoe. Our house was the last one built 20 years ago. It is a nice place to go for a walk, but either you turn around and go back or walk through the grass in the common area and often that is wet grass because of the sprinkler system. The neighborhood association pays to maintain the sprinkler system, and mow the yard. We have dreamed of putting in a sidewalk along the front to connect the front of the neighborhood for years. The government of course demands we do curb cuts and put in handicap ramps. That raised the price so high we just could not afford it.

Along comes the city. They are widening the street that the neighborhood is next to. It will become 4 lanes. Federal law says any improvement like that means sidewalks have to go in. So the city just shows up and starts digging up the grass and putting in a sidewalk. Sprinkler system be dammed. Pipes flew and were strewn everywhere.

Of course the utility easement has water, sewer, electric, cable, phone, natural gas and likely anything else. The new sidewalk had to intersect the sprinkler system main line. We will have to pay for the sprinkler repair but that is likely less than the sidewalk would have cost us.

The strange part is the city did not contact us at all. Just start digging. Of course when you are from the government and here to help us permission is never asked. Coordination with the citizens is never needed.
