It is sunny here for a change. 50*.

David, we bought a set of flush LED lights to replace 3 globes in our hallway. That was so fun I wish I could do it again. Had to bring lamps down the hall and went through 3 side cutting Dremel bits with all the plaster and other crap they put in the old boxes.

As with all "that should be easy" projects.

Hope all y'all are ready for a good weekend. 'cept Jim and Jeff who have 7 day weekends.

Hey Jeff, I say in the news that the last of the tourists to climb Uluru has ended. As I remember your kid worked there did he not? That are will likely see a big decline in tourism. Oh well, it ain't my country, ain't my sacred rock. I hope it works out for the locals and the folks in control.

Paddy Uluru, who in 1973 was recognised as the legitimate principal owner of Uluru, said in an interview that 'the physical act of climbing was of no cultural interest.'

Paddy Uluru died in 1979, and since then the fabrication of cultural interest in climbing it has become 'significant'. The traditional management board is exercising their power of control over an activity that is enjoyed by more than 30% of the visiting population.

I also suspect that the cost of upgrading the chain used to assist climbers to todays safety requirements would be enormously expensive and perhaps cost prohibitive. The chain was installed in the late 60's and is probably nearing the end of its life.

I'm betting that they couldn't not upgrade the method of assistance if they kept the climb open, and it was more accepting to close it for 'cultural and safety' reasons.

I suspect there will be a negative effect to tourism resulting from this decision.

I figured it was the major draw to tourists to that part of the country. If all they can do is see it in the distance, a picture will do instead. If the locales really prefer to do without the tourists, that is the way to do it.

Time will tell if the economy in the area does OK, or has some real pain.

My dad talked about Enid AFB back in the 1950s when I was still a baby and he was in pilot training. The local politician morons were tired of airmen coming into town and acting like 20 year olds with a paycheck. They actually discussed asking the base be closed. One of the intelligent guys in the Air Force just paid the servicemen is $2 bills. They are legal tender, but rarely used. Within 24 hours of the bases payday everyone in town had a $2 bill, everyone. Even folks that have nothing to do with the base or that area of town. That money circulated through the economy. They decided the base was a great thing to have.

I "got" to drive my wife and the computer I replaced the motherboard in up to Enid, OK yesterday. The trusty El Camino does just fine up to the 70 MPH speed limit with no issues. It just cruises along at 2,300 RPM and is happy.

I think we have made over 150 trips up there in that car. 27 years of ownership, and it is just a 95 miles each way trip. All most all interstate or 4 lane highway. No curves except the interstate on and off ramps. One of the highways we used to take when we lived on the other side of town had "the curvy part" of two gentle sweepers in a S curve that the S is very stretched out.

It was tough, but I survived the outage on Pelican yesterday afternoon. It was a tough time.....

I wonder what happened to take it down for so long.

It was not me! I was just browsing, and all of a sudden it would not refresh. I tried going to other sites, and they worked, but Pelican forums was down. The main parts site was working so I figured the electricity was still on. I did not know if a fire got the area, or if the power was turned off. I do know parts of California is very third world right now and other parts are on fire.

The news media makes it look like the apocalypse in full force. But they love do that with the one house with storm damage, and a tight shot of it, and make it sound like and entire area was as destroyed, like in Katrina in New Orleans. It was that bad in NO, but one house with a damaged shed is not the same thing.

Oh boy. Somehow it always ends up costing more, and providing less.

I am about to hit the age of one of the big speed limit sign numbers. All my old insurance system gets replaced by the totally efficient and wonderful system operated by the model of efficiency and patient care. The same folks doing the great job at the VA and the IRS and the post office. The same ones that set up Obamacare, and had a web site that could not stay running for more than a few minutes.

Our home phone gets an average of 15 to 20 phone calls all wanting me to sign up with a different companies. I never answer the line, and just add more numbers to the blocked list. My wife hands me a lot of paperwork to read and learn, and I always ignore all that and I let her take care of it. I just pay the bill. She is the retired HR director and I hired her as my unpaid HR director for my company. She gets free meals for the honor.
