Morning all. Sounds like home repair is the norm here now. I to have an issue to deal with. One light fixture has a socket that is not working. There is power, new bulb no joy. So this weekend in the light of day I'll see if its a wiring to the socket issue, if not its an attempt to find a replacement for it.

Garage
When we moved in the house had wallpaper on every interior wall. Not bad wallpaper, but not what my wife wanted. So she wanted paint every wall. There was no texture to the walls, just flat smooth sheetrock. One of my buddies paints interiors of houses for a living. So we hired him to come put some light hand texturing on the walls. My wife first removed all the wall paper, he textured the walls and she painted. I "got" to help move the stuff around but she did most all of the painting.

Of course once all the walls were done she she decided the floors in the bathrooms needed to be ripped out, and new porcelain tile put in, and of course while we are in there, might as well do the shower and new granite counter tops, and that of course means new sinks and faucets. And we might as well do the laundry room and kitchen so the counter tops all match. The heated floor in the bathrooms are great.

Of course that meant we needed new wood flooring in the entryway, formal dining room, and hall-way.

About a year later she decided it was time for all new carpet, so that meant moving every single item we own, out of a room and back in to the room.

It has taken 21 years to get the house where she wants it. She decorates the house her way. The garage is MINE MINE MINE, but I do let her park her Macan in there. And just minimal crap and it has to be temporary. My stuff is of course important.

That sounds too familiar.
We bought our house 25 years ago and it had wallpaper on nearly every wall.
Didja know that wall paper is good at hiding crappy half-arsed dry-wall repairs?
The previous owners must have been professional wrestlers.

At the time I couldn't afford a texture gun and compressor so I bought a hand-pump texture gun.
What a pain that was but I did the entire house with it and it turned out good, after a few practice tries.
Back then everything was on a tight budget. Some times I forget how easy I have it now.
I re-did every room in the house, except the master bath. I was burned out and said i'll get to that later.
A couple months ago was later, finally did it.

But now the rest of the house is just about due for a re-do.
Good thing my wife pointed that out because I thought it was just fine.
silly friggin me.

The wall texture we have is the hand troweled look, cause that is what she wanted. I can't really care less. It is just a wall. The garage walls are the only walls that are repainted. They are still just the smooth white sheetrock the builder installed. The ceilings are white and help reflect the lighting.

As we were under contract to buy the house, we asked for early access to do some work on the house. The sellers refused. So the day we got possession, I started working on the central vacuum system installation. That is a real pain in the living room with the 12 foot ceilings. We do not own a regular vacuum so what little vacuuming we could do after moving in was with a battery operated "electric broom" that was pitiful.

I finally got that done and could concentrate on moving in.

The next year I had the fun of installing the sprinkler system. The water well for the sprinkler is way in the corner of the back yard. All the lines had to run in a central main trench all the way around the house, and up to the front. I installed 99 spray heads in 14 zones. No rotary heads.

Maybe tomorrow I’ll start prepping the house for painting. Pressure wash it, then sand/scrape the peeling paint on the fascia. I have 4 small gables (Dutch hip roof) and the chimney that’ll require my going up on the roof. Everything else is on a step ladder or on the ground. I painted the house by myself about 7 years ago, too. Wife holds the ladder and/or waits/watches for me to fall.

Our house is brick so there isn't a lot of exterior to paint. We also put steel siding and roofing on the outside garage and the composite boards most places. All we have to paint on that is the trim around the garage doors and entry door.

Our interior walls have the 4 grit sandpaper texture. It is nice when you can't reach that spot on your back that itches.

We have a mostly brick house. Only the garage doors and the soffits have paint. There is some paint above the back porch around the chimney.

Two years ago I noticed some of the soffit in the front of the house was sagging. I am NOT a carpenter, nor a painter. I called the guy that put our roof on because he does that type of work. He came out to give me an estimate and it was small stuff. He said when he replaces the roof he can just get it taken care of at the same time. The roof was only two years old at the time, so I was alarmed. He said don't worry, the tile manufacturer is paying for it because the old roof tiles were defective.

So he replaced the entire roof, and did some soffit repair, and a bit of painting and it cost us nothing. Dang it, that was my price goal!

When we do need some paint, I think we are going to siding. No more painting.

We have had rain since Wednesday night. Nice slow rain, no flooding, just steady rain. Over 2.5 inches of rain so far. They had a near blizzard in the Texas panhandle and in far NE Oklahoma. 7 or 8 inches of snow. They can keep that crap.

It is supposed to rain until this evening.

They did report we had 13 months in a row of under normal temperatures that streak was broken in September with a slightly above normal month.

It’s been pretty warm here, with highs in the low 90s yesterday. Thankfully, it’ll go back to normal (70s) by Sunday. Crazy October weather.

Morning all. Hope all is well. Yep Saturday I get to figure out how to remove the light from the ceiling so it can be repaired. Tried yesterday but ran out of daylight and no one else home to olh the light.

If it is a typical pot light recessed up in the ceiling, often they literally just pull down to get to the connections. Some of them will require attic access. There are a zillion different fixtures, and each is unique. Good luck.

half domed glass fixture with a mount below the room ceiling. I just ran out of daylight before I could find the two screws holding it to the box in the ceiling.

I had sent the high res version of this over to the print shop we use. They asked if I would send them a version suitable for a 40x60 print for their wall in the lobby. I told em sure, just don't print extras and give em away or share a high res version. In the full res version, you can see a player with his arms in the air and some officials signalling touchdown.
