Whew.

I am back from Alabama. It is 11 hours 10 minutes of engine run time. The biological carbon units operating the vehicle require nourishment, and evacuation of wastes and time to feed gasoline to the car. That is about 30 minutes total added if rushed by eating while in the car since most restaurants dining areas are closed.

No doubt they call it a Soul because it is soul sucking. It is not a bad car, but it ain't a good car. On the A to F scale it is a C. It has no torque at all until 3,500 RPM and it has the variable transmission so no shifts. Cruising along at 3,000 RPM at 75 MPH if a hill of any sort comes up the engine starts to wind up. A steeper hill and it is up to 4,500 RPM. Only 27 MPG and a 12 gallon tank.

It got us there and back and no issues.

As we were starting to cross the Mississippi river bridge a pickup with a gooseneck trailer hitch pulling a trailer with two vehicles on it decided he might like to be in my lane. I had to jump on the brakes and he missed be by inches only because I have fast reactions. Even better the FedEx truck behind me had good reactions and did not rear end me. It was a close call. I escaped only with years of defensive driving and the experience to be watching for him to be a crappy driver.

One of my friends from high school era that helped me work on my old 1960 VW bug when I was a 100% neophyte found me on Faceplant. He evidently is much like my brother and not real fast on modern communications. First he send me a private message but did not know how to send a friend request. So I sent him a friend request to be sure he was the right guy with that common name. I sent him a Private message and gave him my phone number and email as told him I was going to be in Montgomery, and please call and we can meet face to face. He did not reply until I was on the way home. We did talk on the phone yesterday and caught us some.

I have not seen or talked to him since 1978. He helped me replace the push rod tubes on the 1960 that were leaking like mad in likely 1972 or 1973.

Facebook has it's upsides. For the people that get into politics I just unfollow them. I have no time to read about silly propaganda and I don't believer 99% of what anyone says about politics on Facebook. David, you are one of the few "friends" I have on Facebook that I do not personally know and have talked to face to face. I don't send friend requests to everyone in my contact list.

I know several people that deleted Facebook accounts because of the BS censoring Facebook has started. I just communicate with friends and family. Facebook helped a lot to let people know about by nephews death. Distant relatives were notified.

I say HA to the censoring crap. I love the fact some of the BS gets stopped before I have to look at it. I have dropped many so called friends for statements or posts that they should have thought about before they clicked.

Well we are set to get the second covid vaccine shot tomorrow. I have talked to several friends that already got the second one and some said it was noting but a needle stick and no real discomfort, some of the others that said it was painful for days and they had body aches. I am planning on the no pain no big deal like the first one was. I dislike pain and suffering so I chose to not participate.

Talked to my parents about Hulu or similar for local stations as well. Dad is not a huge computer guy but is willing to learn. Mom on the other hand is at that stage where I don't think she will be able to learn a new way of TV.

For instance, dad will play the racing games with the kids and likes the VR stuff. A friend of his just restored one of Dick Trickle's Purple Knights for a museum and I said I have that car in one of the classic racing sims.

The alarm folks are back.

This is the third visit to fix the same issue, an alert that sets off the alarm warning beep that the battery is low, and 12 hours late, it is OK, then 12 ours later, low and so on. I explained that is simply not acceptable and it will be changed to a different vendor if it is not cured.

The latest guy is once again saying the previous folks did things wrong, and he will fix it. Then he asked with a little white box is that should be mounted on the wall in the garage or in the attic. I told him I am very familiar with the attic and garage, there is no such box. He looked anyway. He finally found something in the main alarm panel that was "the wrong type of board" but has worked fine for 8 years. OK, so the installer and two repair guys did not fix it.

We shall see. This is their last chance.

During this year of off and on quarantine I've had time to address everything inside and around the house.
Everything has been fixed, repaired, fertilized or cleaned.
Hope to get a shot in a month or two.
I'm ready for another 5 year run at racing.

Local shop is helping on my vaccination race car.
In the shop to rebuild the engine, reseal the steering rack, crack check the chassis and grease the wheel bearings.
Entered the August Pre Reunion at Laguna Seca.

Yesterday almost felt like a normal day, went to the race shop had a great meeting.
Then went out to lunch (outside) with a friend.

So Ted, I assume you don't run in showroom stock?

Just to add in the fun for today the bosses wife insisted we get up early and head to Sam's Wholesale for another fruit run.

One of my buddies is starting up a sideline business to organize track fun days with a limited group of friends. First up is back to Hallett, the the track in Kansas and then Eagle's Canyon in Texas. If the group gets enough guys together we may even to Circuit of the Americas, the F1 track. Evidently is is super expensive to rent, and they charge like 10 grand per foot for the damaged guardrails is one screws up really bad and smacks the wall.

I may well drag my original 15 inch Fuchs out of the attic and get a set of autocross tires and just drive them to the events.
