Cold, snowy and quite windy here. You know the wind is bad when Hoth is mentioned in the forecast.
We have a Garmin we have used before the minivan. The van has Nav built in and works well enough. I wonder how much snow Pete is getting.

Yesterday I ordered the new GPS from a local Best Buy about 11:00 AM. They offered free overnight shipping so I chose that option. The first email confirmation said the order was placed, but due to Covid it might be delayed. I figured if it came in a day late I would be OK.
The GPS arrived about 3:30 PM yesterday. So 4.5 hours and it was delivered. Cool. ![]() It is of course like the difference between a smart phone from 2010 and a 2020 version. About the same size, but it connects to my cell phone for input of addresses and links to the GPS on the phone for more accuracy. I have it charged up, and the app installed on my iPhone but I have not played with it much. I have a few errands to run today and I will use it to go places that I fully know how to get to, just to get familiar with it. It will update the maps and software with WiFi or a USB cable. My old GPS was nicknamed Bit-chin Betty, and I had her talk in an Australian accent. It was often funny driving around in California and her her pronounce some of the Spanish names.

Morning all. MY RDX has an internal mapping system that I kept up to date early on but now that its 13 years old and the cell phone has better one I ignore all the emails to upgrade. They also want money for the dvd and the install.....

We deliberately left off the GPS option for my wife's Macan. It has Apple Car play and the screen from the iPhone will display right on the dash. The driver or passenger can run the iPhone right from the dash. It is easy to use whatever mapping app you want. And it is always up to date.
I just booked a rental car, and they have a GPS option for "just" 12 bucks per day. I will just use my GPS. For my 911 I have a ring mount that holds the GPS just under the clock. Out of the way and pretty much invisible to anyone from outside. In car GPS systems are usually out of date in no time, and expensive to update. This GPS will update with just a wi-fi signal, or the USB cable.

The minivan was used and came with nav. It updates ota via cell signal so that part is nice.
It is above 0* and may get to 20* this afternoon! Any word on Richard's progress?

Thanks David.
I have been having fun getting the 1099 tax forms figured out. I sent my QuickBooks file to my CPA. For whatever reason the report picked up every possible vendor we have that could get a 1099 even if we paid them zero dollars in 2020. We finally got that figured out. The IRS makes it a real challenge and I can't just print a page and mail it to the client, it has to be a on a form blessed with holy water by the IRS or filed through an online firm and they charge 6 bucks per 1099. Only the US congress could make it so complex. The IRS just has to follow the laws and small businesses get screwed.

Welp, I rented the car. They ended up giving us a Kia Soul. The boxy looking ugly car. It only had 6,800 miles on it. They ran it through a 30 second "car wash" to make it wet, and hide any small scratches. The windshield was filthy when it dried. It will get us there and back.
The oil is already almost black, and it is a 1/2 quart low, but it ain't my car and I suspect it will be fine. The washer fluid is pretty low but I refuse to add any of mine. It is hard as a car guy to just think of it as an rented appliance. I guess I will get over that feeling.

They name it that because that is the price for having to ride in it.

Maybe that is it.
I did check the tire pressure and was pleasantly surprised. The sticker on the door post says 33 PSI all around. One tire was at 32.5 or so and the rest were at 33. Shocking. The last time I rented a car from them the dummy was relying on the TPMS of the car to air up one tire. When I got home I checked and that tire was likely over 100 PSI. It just pegged my 70 PSI max gauge. I let air out for a long time and it was still way too high. Then I discovered the reason he just pumped it up, it had a slow leak. So on that trip I had to bring my air compressor and air up the tire at every gas stop. The Soul does have the modern stuff that all cars come with now. I did manage to connect my cell phone and connect for music only, no contacts. And I got the GPS ready to go, but the windshield is wayyyyyy up there and out of reach. I may well just stick it to the display screen so I can see it better. On my 911 I can have my thumbs wrapped around the steering wheel and just extend my index finger and touch the windshield.

Morning all. TGIF! Not much going on today I hope it stays that way.
I think the entertainment dusting gremlins missed Glens house and came here. I think my Sony blue ray is in need of replacement. Its been acting strange needed the hdmi cables swapped to work. It restarts the DVD every night rather than remember where it was last. Then last night it had to be unplugged from the wall because it was stuck in start up mode and would not respond.

Well you just keep those gremlins there, or send them back to Glen. Or Joe. Joe will take care of them for good.

No gremlins needed here.
And a bump to prevent the thread from a page three drop. Can't have that!

It has taught us we will never ask for a RFP from Johnson Controls ever again. At least this past weekend was yard, more specifically driveway, work this time. 8 inches and a slipping belt on the snow thrower auger sucks. Told my wife the whole time I was out there I was thinking we should sell the truck and get a Wrangler and plow. The truck is only 2wd. She said we should get a bobcat and she can use it for yard work too. I am not sure what I will do if I get to retire.

My boss told me when I get to retirement age I can just move to the facility and live there as a consultant. Um, no!
