I have a few cars you can come wash.

GH85Carrera 05-14-2021 12:35 PM

My project for this afternoon is wash the 911. If is filthy nasty gross right now. It is covered in bugs after all the miles, and track time. Tomorrow morning is the free "Motors in the morning at the dealership. Free coffee and donuts, and shoot the um breeze, yea that's the PG-13 word.

Very soon I will do an oil change and transmission fluid change. I want to check the brakes, as they got pretty hot. Several times I would smell hot brakes, but I never knew for sure if they were mine or some other car. Lots of the time I was all alone in my part of the track.

I would, but I,uh, lost the PM with your address. Yeah, that's the reason I can't! Of course if you bring them over I can wash them. We have a new ceramic coating I wanted to try anyway!

Porsche-poor 05-14-2021 01:37 PM

I'd send it again but I'm sure the spam filter would catch it and I wouldn't blame it.

I need to wash the 944 and buff it. I finally have a soft water tap for pressure washing cars at home. It was a must with the truck, you can burn $15 worth of quarters trying to clean that monster at a car wash. 🤣

I use the well water to wash my cars, mostly because the very humble, good looking, genius that put in the sprinkler system put a outlet right in the perfect place. It is a bit hard, but the soap takes off the bugs and grimes, and a towel dries the cars spot free.

I am off to the dealership's "Motors in the morning" for fee coffee and donuts, and Porsche friends.

Phew, I am almost all recovered from Saturday. There was a nice turnout at the Motors in the Morning. I parked next to a guy that is new to the club. He has a 2021 911 GT3RS and a sticker on the window showing Eagles Canyon. He saw all of my track stickers and was amazed that an old car like mine has been to all of them. He said he was a member at Eagles Canyon. The cheap membership there is $250 per month. If you want a garage to keep you car there full time, the prices just go up.

I stood up for 2.5 hours on concrete at the dealership. Then I got home, and the pond pump had died. It only lasted a few months. It was the last of that brand. So we had to go out in 1:00 PM to Lowe's and it was a total zoo. We found a pump that is close to the performance of the old pump. It sits horizontal, not vertical like the old one. The fittings were all different so total re-engineer the connections. I got that done then got to mow and edge the yard. I did not get into a shower until 5:00 PM.

My wife's great nephew (that feels weird to type) just graduated from high school. He has a computer that is his game machine. The hard drive was running at 100% usage all the time. He asked me to look at it. My wife was in Enid, so he brought it to her to haul home. I have been tinkering with it. He had both McAfee and Norton antivirus, and Microsoft defender installed. I asked it there was any reason for that and he said his brother was convinced it was a virus. I uninstalled both of those, and went to just Defender. It took 30 minutes to defragment the drive, and that seems really slow. I dug in my box of old drives and found a 1 TB Segate drive that is certainly faster than his drive. I cloned his drive to the new drive and that helps.

I am going to suggest he spend about $100 for a 1 TB SSD. I will clone the system to that, and it will be a ton faster. I will put his old drive in as a second drive and a good backup place for files and as a second scratch drive.

I have a 2 TB SSD I am not using but that is worth 200 bucks, and I am not that generous. The 1 TB drive is no big deal as I likely would never use a drive that small.

He has just 16 gig of RAM, and that is slowing things down.

The kid in AK has the same problem with a laptop. Super slow. I think its the games and the music software. I might take it to a friend this fall when I can get it in my hands.

Our kids know a guy that does IT so their stuff stays in pretty good shape.

Porsche-poor 05-17-2021 08:03 AM

in house IT comes in handy. I still have that card you sent but every time I think I have to time install it and get started some other chore comes up.

flipper35 05-17-2021 08:10 AM

I have that problem. To many things to do and not enough time. I have to go rent a jack hammer to remove our back step that is concrete so we can put a deck in. At least having a deck will be nice since we don't have many areas of level ground for eating outside.

Porsche-poor 05-17-2021 08:16 AM

be safe and try and not lose any parts.

GH85Carrera 05-17-2021 10:27 AM

I texted my great nephew at 8:10 AM today to tell him I was pretty much done with his system. I said I was not going to do a long text when a phone call is easier. I asked he text me to be sure I am available before he called.

He just texted me at 12:08 and said he just woke up. Ah the days of being a teenager.

Porsche-poor 05-17-2021 10:54 AM

yep them lazy days.

Body parts or rental parts? Not sure which would be more expensive.

Porsche-poor 05-17-2021 11:12 AM

When I talked to my grandnephew I told him he would get the biggest performance boost with a SSD. He said his parents had not "done a graduation" gift as yet. He called back 20 minutes later after talking to his dad and asked me to order one, and get it installed. So it is on the way. Should be here today, likely late afternoon. I will clone it and get it installed. Likely I will wipe the old drive, and install it as a second drive and make it the scratch drive and backup drive.

It got me to thinking about when I was 16. My computer was a pencil and paper. Calculators were still every expensive. Somewhere I have a picture of my first $100. It was a couple of 20s several 10s and 5s and ones. And a roll of quarters and dimes. It came out to $100! That same hundred bucks today is $659.39. I handed it all to my dad as the down payment on my first car. The 1960 VW bug that cost me $600.

So my first car was essentially a $4,000 car today.

For my graduation gift I really really wanted one of the new fangled digital watches. Those were still very expensive so I got a Cross pen and mechanical pencil set. I still have the pencil, and I think the pen disappeared in one of my moves.

Porsche-poor 05-18-2021 06:49 AM

Morning all. I can't remember what I got for HS graduation. Possibly just dinner.
